Stupid ads. Anyone else getting this?

That add is put by some agent software. Search the installed software for unknown software and uninstall it. If it disappears you are lucky. I had got one such persistent set of adds after accessing an unknown site. After trying every thing unsuccessfully, I finally reinstalled the windows OS.

In the new install after installing Chrome, I downloaded and installed ADBlock plus. That prevents these adds from installing themselves stealthily. I have also migrated from Firefox to Chrome as Firefox has weaker defenses against such software.

Another vote for Ad Block used it for many years.....

+1

I use Mozilla Firefox Portable Edition as a browser. Walks, talks and quacks just like regular Firefox.
It's self-contained in a file. Doesn't install on your computer.
Can be moved to any computer.
I have a copy I surf with and a second copy as a back-up.
In the case of this thread if the offending ad doesn't respond to AdBlock I delete the broswer and start using the back-up browser.

And stop using Chrome.

Yeah, this new large ad at the bottom is simply too much. It takes up too much page space. I know I could contribute money to the site to remove it, but I think that is just greed, content contributions should be enough, so that the smaller ads pay for the site.

I also greatly miss the most recent post boxes at the right edge. I suppose that removal tried to put some content area back, but these were great to know what is recent, and were useful to all. The large ad is only useful to the site owner.

As @aroy pointed out, it has nothing to do with this particular site and it is not @jdeg's doing. I'm not getting it at all.

Thank you VERY MUCH!!! I had the same add as in the original post. I downloaded Adblock Pus and it is GONE!!! Thanks again.
You're welcome!

Ad Block Plus is just... It's just flat-out essential these days, in my opinion. Every time I use a computer that doesn't have Ad Block installed, I'm reminded of just how awesome it is.

Contributors are not supposed to see any ads here. I don't mind seeing a few ads, but I do want to see the page content too. And amazingly, the large offending ad has suddenly been removed. That's good, thanks.

The recent boxes aren't just collapsed (blue arrow) are they. I use a different ad blocker and they are still there.

You're right, thank you. The double arrow brings them back. I'd never seen that before.

And the large offending bottom ad is not gone after all, it came back.

This is not site related. This is/was coming from ping.chartbeat.net not sure how I got it. Tried blocking it by host with no luck. adblock did the trick.

I'm getting this same exact Best Buy ad. I've just did a quick jump to to every site that I routinely visit and I only get it here. I think its something gone wrong here on Nikonites. I have used ad block in the past, but I removed it. I had a problem, but I forget what it was. I guess I will be loading adblock back and find out. This ad looks like some of the ads I normally see at the top of Nikonites that just scroll away with the page, but today it is stuck floating at the bottom of my screen always covering 1/3 of the content and I have a big empty spot at the top of the page.

The ad went away for a few minutes and then it came back. I screen shot my regular banner ad and the the troublesome floating ad.

This is my usual type of ad I see here. It scrolls off the screen as I read and not a problem.

This is the problem ad today. It floats and blocks my view and you can see the empty spot where I think it should be.

I did a malware scan. I cleared my cache and tried both Chrome and Firefox and it still comes back. I guess I'll ad block it for now.

I think this is coming from my ad company, and I agree, that's extremely annoying.

I'll contact them and get it removed if it is them.
