Slow?

Sometimes it runs slow up here, but it doesn't seem to be slow all the time. It might have to do with the time of day or users visiting the site maybe?

It's not really slowing down Anthony, it just seems that way. What we are not being told is that the Cern Large Hadron Collider has successfully created a black hole in switzerland. They have been unable to control it, and it is slowly eating up everything. Now as we all learned in our Astro Physics classes back in Elementary School, time appears to slow down as matter approaches the event horizon of the black hole.

We must also concern ourselves of the Rapture/Judgement day as brought to light by the Rev. Harold Camping. According to him, we have until Oct 21, 2011 (Unless he's miscalculated again). Of course, let us not forget Dec. 21, 2012, as predicted by the Myans.

That's the very complex explanation Mike :)

All systems are normal. If you find a pattern of slowness, like specific pages being slow, or a part of a page not loading, please let me know.

ssl.gstatic seems to be the hangup for me when pages won't load. It doesn't matter what page it is, or even when creating a new post. But it is especially getting hung up when I try to view my PM inbox.

On a side note, there are many times when the "like" option is missing from posts as well.

hrm, gstatic is used for google analytics. But if your browser says it's loading that then it's more than likely getting hung up on the thing loading before or after that object.

Since the like button is also spotty this may indicate that you're getting hung up on some javascript files. Can you load http://nikonites.com/vbseo/resources/scripts/vbseo_ui.js and http://static.nikonites.com/vbseo/resources/scripts/vbseo_ui.js
?

Try f5'ing the site or clearing your cache and reloading everything.

I've done all that. And yes, I can load the JavaScript.

Truth is, I think it has something to do with Firefox 5 and Google. I've been having issues with my Google News widget on iGoogle ever since I upgraded to Firefox 5 too.

Thanks for the update Mike, off to the store now to max out all my credit cards on lenses
and gear!

Re: The "like" button

I take it all back.

I'm now doing something I haven't done for years...using Internet Explorer. This site continues to run slow on FF5, and it's now to the point where the browser can't even keep up with my typing speed. Doing administrative duties requires several refreshes and cache clearings to jump-start the processes, as does making a post.

I wish I could point you in the right direction, man...but something is really screwy. I don't have these issues on any other site, not even other vBulletin forums. There's some kind of toxic mix of installed add-ons and/or software that are really bogging down FF5.

Re: The "like" button

I'm using FF on my Mac and the site doesn't appear to be slow. Next time I'm on Windows (later today), I'll try IE and Chrome to see if I notice a difference.

Hrm, that's really strange - I haven't changed anything recently. Are the other vbulletin sites you're going to using vb 4?

I'm posting this from FF5 to see if I can catch any abnormal behavior.

Re: The "like" button

Yeah, I've been cruising around the 'net for random forums that use vB4. So far I've been to 7 different ones, and haven't had issues with any of them. I can't seem to replicate the issues. Whatever is causing the slowdown, it's still getting hung up on ssl.gstatic and ping.crowdscience.

Re: The "like" button

I'm wondering if one of the plugins is crashing? Either that or something is being blocked. gstatic is google and crowdscience is that survey popup. Usually when something is hung up it's the thing before that thing that is not loading correctly.

Do you have firebug?

try opening that up and going to console > errors - see if anything is in there.

Re: The "like" button

I've been running it, and nothing has shown up. Even now as I type this, I'm getting hung up with "Transferring data from ping.crowdscience.com" and there are no errors in Firebug.

Re: The "like" button

Hi Anthony...I use FF5 and I'm having zero issues with this site (although I'm not a "Super Mod" :)) Sounds like it's one of your add-ons or extensions. I had this problem with a few other webpages so I disabled all add-ons and eventually discovered the conflicting add-ons (don't recall off the top of my head what they were). Anyway, FF5 has been working seamlessly after that - keeping my fingers crossed.
