Perhaps it's not a marketing thing, but another discussion altogether... MAYBE it's limited to contributing members for their input, or to vote on something, etc.? It it was "BUY SOMETHING HERE", and the admin wanted to "make money", then perhaps it would be a public post.

Don't take offense unless someone is trying to purposely offend you. Less stress = longer life!!

Whether it is about selling something or about getting feedback on something to eventually sell, i really don't see the point in limiting it to contributing members only. There are other members on here who make "contributions" but are not paying to have the title. I only see it as fair that every member here, paid or not, should have the right to have their input to. And i am not offended, i am only pointing something out.

There are several here who make the same type of contributions AND pay a bit as well. I can't speak for the others, but I'll say that *I* did not "pay to have the title". I donated a small amount to support the website and try to ensure that it's around for quite a bit longer. Sure, in order to recognize those that contributed monetarily to help offset time spent, server costs, hosting costs, etc., jdeg chose to give out a few privileges... and sometimes we use them.

At times, it's cool to ask a smaller group of folks a question that I'd rather not put out there for the masses, because honestly, sometimes the non-committal masses slaughter a thread with meaningless "blah blah", whereas a more committed focus group tends to stay on point.

Having said all of that:

1) I'm not lumping you into the "blah blah" groups, so JIC, no offense intended.
2) MOST of the time, I do all my chit-chat out here where everyone can see anyway, as do all of the "contributors" that I know.
3) Perhaps it would be easier to think of it like... A Sam's Club? LOL (you guys have those up there, or something similar?)
4) It's really not all that expensive to help support the site if ya like it. Less than a buck a month and you can "HIDE" with us!
5) In case ya like #4: http://nikonites.com/content/423-become-contributing-member.html#axzz3Jd1vVvTh

Peace, man!

As of now, the way it works, if someone wants to buy something branded Nikonite, they first have to pay as a contributor in order to purchase? Does not make sense to me. Any member should be able to see the post and buy and send money your way admin.

There are no items for sale in that post/thread. The only Nikonites items for sale that I'm aware of are posted in this thread, which is in an open forum.

Becoming a contributing member is discussed in this article here. The admin has chosen to provide some extra benefits/features to members who decide to financially contribute to the site. You are entirely correct, there are more ways than just financial to contribute to this site. That said, running an online forum of this size also brings along with it some fairly hefty financial obligations, so both sides of the equation must be met for the site to survive. At times, the admin may decide to solicit input from members who have taken that extra step to contribute financially to the website, in the same way the admin may decide to solicit input from the membership at large. It's not a matter of trying to alienate anyone, or discredit the viewpoints of others, but rather to target the request to a narrow demographic.

How did you even get the link for it since you aren't a contributing member?

I think everyone explained what's going on, so I don't really need to repeat anything. It is an added benefit that hasn't even happened yet though :)

Moderators get all the benefits whether we contribute money or not BUT most of us were the first to contribute. We do that because we get a lot out of the site and want to help as much as we can.

Is there a way for those to show up as new posts or in the recent post area for just the folks that can read/post there? I usually read/respond to just those things I see there. Easier, for me, to glance through those.

No big either way, just curious.

No longer. They don't show up at the top of the page now, again.
They should still show up for members that have permission to see them. There hasn't been a new post in the forum recently though.
