IE11 causing me all sorts of problems

Microsoft very kindly upgraded to me to IE11, thought I had auto updates turned off but hey ho, now I am struggling to view Nikonites. I keep getting an error message that the web site has caused IE11 to crash and needs to close, I cannot copy and paste anything in to the thread reply box and I can't upload picture to a thread or post them from my gallery. Any suggestions please?

There are some other posts complaining about IE11 and this forum. Solution seems to be to move to Firefox, Safari, Chrome or some other browser. I suspect there's something with the forum as well since I can't get it to display properly with Firefox on my Mac, though it works fine in the same version on my PC and a Windows laptop.

Lee, the other option if you want IE is to go into the control panel and reset the system to the day or so before teh update (effectively putting you back to your previous version)

@Lee532

If the problems with your IE11 continues, then you may run this fix (Windows only):
Fix Internet Explorer issues to make IE fast, safe and stable

or you can get help over at Landzdown Forum. There is Microsoft people around:
LandzDown Forum - Index

Remember:
Update your Adobe Flash Player & Java
Check your Antivirus & Firewall settings
Some settings can cause problems if some kind of adds and this and that are shown on sites
Remove the old version of Java before you install the new version

Mac: Please read this:Internet Explorer (Mac) - Download

Good luck!

You can revert back to IE 9 or 10.

Click on start(the button with the windows flag)
Type "program"
Click on "programs and features"
New window opens, look in the left side column for "view installed updates" - click on it
Wait for the list to populate
Search for internet explorer 11. Right click on it and uninstall.
You well be prompted to restart.
When it restarts it well say "installing updates"

I just fixed IE11 after googling "problems" with it. Got a Microsoft forum where the Microsoft answer to go into "debug" mode using the "F12" key to bring up the debugger, going to emulation, and setting "User Agent String" to "Internet Explorer 10".

Paste buffer and typing is back to normal.I cannot believe the idiots at Microsoft automatically upgrade Explorer, break half the websites visited, compatibility mode is broken, and some arcane dancing on the keyboard to bring up the debugger is required to fix it.

The above is what you get after closing and re-opening IE11. There must be some trick to get the Debug settings to stick.Microsoft Idiots.

Microsoft does not allow the changes to remain in effect between sessions, The IDIOTS have a way to fix their damned piece of software that they infect machines with, but expect every site owner to rewrite their code to match the latest bugs put into IE11.

Time to change browsers.

Thanks all for the tips and comments. I'll carry on with Chrome but leave IE installed and see which works best/have best of both worlds.

Aside from accessing Microsoft's own web sites, and a few very bad web sites here and there that foolishly chose to follow Microsoft's “standards” instead of the universally-accepted standards; there is no good reason to use any version of Internet Explorer for any purpose other than to download and install a good browser, such as Chrome or Firefox of Safari.

If you use broken tools, you have to expect to produce broken results.

And of course, “fixing” a web site to work properly under Internet Explorer often has the effect of breaking it for every other browser.

My biggest gripe about Microsoft is this:

In many areas (the coding of web pages being one) the industry as a whole has established certain standards. If a web site is written according to these standards, then it will render properly on any web browser that conforms to these standards.

The World Wide Web was intended to be standardized, browser independent, hardware independent, platform independent. The standards that underlie it were intended to assure that any properly-written web browser running under any operating system on any computer would be able to correctly render any properly-coded web page.

Microsoft arrogantly tries to force its own proprietary conventions in place of the universal standards. Their web browser often fails to properly render web sites that are written according to the standards. To guarantee that a web site renders properly under Internet Explorer, you have to follow Microsoft's “standards” for how it is to be coded, and if you do that, then there's a good chance that only Internet Explorer will be able to render it properly.

There's another important consideration as well. Consider Microsoft's Windows Update web site. By visiting this web site with Internet Explorer, you can download and install update to Windows. Think about what this means. The web browser, the same one that the most foolish of users might be using to surf all web sites of all levels of trustworthiness, has the authority to alter the operating system itself. As easily as it can download and install a legitimate update from Microsoft, it can download and install any bit of destructive malware from any other dodgy web site. Now why do you suppose it is that Windows users have so much more trouble with malware than users of Macintosh, Unix, and Linux systems?

The sad part- I've been writing low-level device driver in assembly language all week, and take a break to visit my favorite sites to relax.

This is what happen when you use software that you did not even write yourself.
