    Nikonites overloaded with moderators.

I just read a post from an australian saying he thought the moderators were over officious ( well he put it stronger than that)
Well I do agree this is an american site for the main and in general american sites are so so squeeky clean dont say boo, be forcefull or disagree or you are off.

I also note that some threads the posts are 60% from moderators and super moderators ...why do they have to stick there nose into everything.?? Why dont they shut up and let the ordinary member have his say?

In a good site the moderators contribute in one name and moderate in another as a group "the moderators"

The biggest site in the world with 36,000 members "boatdesign.net" has no visible moderators and no one reading every post ....if there is a problem you push the button "bring to attention of moderator" and its sorted if neccessary .

Now thats the way it should be run.

I'm a supermod but don't post a lot unless a thread strikes my interest like the recent jpeg/raw thread. Please don't forget that I'm an enthusiast just like you. None of us are getting paid, we're here to have fun. I dare say that on most sites, mods are chosen because they ARE active.

I won't comment about the squeaky clean observation except to point out that the site owner has decided that is how he'd like it run and I'd guess that the US laws might also influence that direction. Your and my continued use of the site indicates our implied consent to follow the guidelines.

I was an admin on a motorbike forum that I started with some friends, ZRXOC. I still go on the forum but these days I'm a regular member with no duties through my own choice.

Moderators are regular members like you and me so why shouldn't they post.
They have to look after the forum and often get little or no respect for what they do.

It's like they're running a free hotel, putting time and effort in for no reward and then being told they should just shut up and clean your room, put new sheets on your bed, vacuum up and then get the hell out, so you can enjoy the room without them under your feet and in your way.

Then anyone who disagrees with how they run the hotel get called nazis, example here (EDIT: not saying that's what you are saying) for running it in a way that suits most people most of the time. You can never suit everyone.

Maybe you can see why I don't run a forum anymore, it's much nicer to be the guest than the manager or workers.

I take my hat off to all who run forums like this.
They would deserve some respect if they were being paid, much more so for the fact they give their valuable time for free, for our benefit.

    Thankyou from "a guest".

I look at this as more of a community than just any regular forum.
I am a senior member in a lot of forums (xda, mac forums, techguy, etc)& i see what you mean about moderators being 'off side'.
It just gives one impression - that the mods are overlords who are present just to swing the axe.
I am glad that THAT impression is absent here.
I think the people here basically enjoy photography & the formation of a forum and association of rules are a necessity than being the main purpose.
The passion of photography transcends all else.. at least it should

All good comments but when a person posts and is designateed "super moderator" that gives what they say more weight in the eyes of a new /inexperienced Nikon owner and this may not be true ..one mod says he is an enthusiast......Why dont they just post without the title moderator and be the same as the rest of us? Why the uniform and gun.?
why dont they use a consealed weapon to do it in US speak..?

Because they are wrong whatever they do.

Out in the open = Heavy handed or threatening.
    Concealed = Devious and dishonest.

I'm a noob and honestly never noticed all these moderators, I couldn't name the ones I have seen.
Makes no difference to me who they are.

On Eduards info at the side of each post it says Super Moderator.
Never noticed before, it is't exactly a bells and whistles title.
Almost concealed, sneaky in my opinion

    Re: Nikonites overloaded with moderators.

The reason I'm a mod is that I was on the site very early. I am very experienced with computers and jdeg asked if I would mod that forum since I was active in it. I also volunteered to mod the D300 forum and asked to create the Mirrorless forum when I purchased a V1. I've tried to guide the conversations by adding value but never tried to be heavy handed. I think that is the same for the rest of the mods. The other mods spend serious time here and deserve compliments not criticism in my opinion.

Don't take this wrong, but if you don't like the approach being taken here, maybe it isn't the place for you.
