Thanks for the replies, I've had photobucket in the past, but it used to take ages to upload photos and also often made google chrome crash... Just took your advice and signed up for Flickr Pro!

I still use Photobucket and really have not seen any image degradation with it and I am on the el-cheapo free plan. Granted, I don't use it for any other reason that to have a place to publish photos so I can post them here. If I really want to post something that is LARGE and in high quality, I just post the file to my website and hotlink it from there.

I share my images of kids and family using SmugMug. I post my public images using Flickr (pay for both).
For general images here and there I host them myself.

what do you gain by posting your pictures this way?

If you mean gain by using a site like SmugMug/Flickr/Zenfolio, it is very easy to use, convenient and a place to easily share your images with others.

Some of the sites mentioned allow you a format to easily sell your images on a variety of products without costing you too much to do so.

Facebook. lol. I'm yet to see any sort of file size/total limit, easily accessible, and a watermark takes care of loose privacy settings as on any other site besides DeviantArt.

^^^ What he said!

I love the community of Flickr and have made new friends on there since I started posting. I also used to use Photobucket but cancelled my sub with them and went pro on Flickr last year. Never looked back. Photobucket is also soooooo sloooow!

You wont' regret your decision :)
