Quick Card Reformatting

If you're like I was 4 months ago then when you reformat your memory card to clean it up you go into the menus and scroll around to Format Memory Card and have at it, and more times than not you're not in the right menu bank. No, it's not a lot of trouble, but in case you didn't know there's a much easier and faster way, at least if you're shooting with a D7xxx series or higher body.

Look at the back of your camera (probably next to the Delete button) and you'll see a red icon that says "FORMAT". Look at the top of your camera near your shutter button and you'll see another one next to one of the smaller buttons up there. Hold the two buttons down simultaneously for a couple seconds and the LCD at the top with flash "FOR". Release the buttons and press them again and your card is quickly reformatted. If you have multiple cards then while the FOR is flashing you can choose which one you want to format before pressing the buttons again.

You're welcome.

Good tip! Been doing that from the beginning (d7100). Use the rear wheel to choose your second card.

Thanks ,but I've been doing it that way for years. I'm surprised you just caught on to that now.:indecisiveness:

I think it was the D90 that I used this feature, but that body only has 1 card slot. When I got the D600 with 2 slots, I didn't know how to switch between slots and have been using the menu ever since. Thanks to both of you for the info!

the only thing i find wrong with the shortcut is that it's not particularly clear anything actually happened after pushing the buttons the 2nd time.

A couple of months ago I decided to get wild, break my routine and try this. I didn't have my reading glasses on, someone was talking to me and as I held the two GREEN buttons down and just as my camera reset, I groaned to myself realizing what I just did. :stupid: RED RED RED RED
