Money off deal on DF

Funny enough I was looking at our stock on hand in the shop the other day and we have 2 of these. There has been no interest whatsoever in the 9 months I have been working there.

I think there's interest, just not at the ridiculous price Nikon is asking. Same with Ferraris :)

The Amazon price is back to ridiculous as of this morning.

For DF to be an appealing buy, it has to come below $1,500, more like 1,200 (no video, no flash). Otherwise the other FF bodies - D610 and D750 are a much better buy. The only reason I will go for a DF is to use the AIS lenses, with modern G lenses other bodies are way better.

At least with Ferrari there is always a waiting period, in this case the DF is waiting for buyers.

I didn't even know it was still made - I thought the novelty of it had passed. Wouldn't mind having it as it is stripped down without the flash and video - two things I don't use and it's an extra electronic to fail. But the price would have to be appealing as the looks are not enough for me to pony up the cash.

In my opinion the Df is a solution in search of a problem; and an ill-conceived solution at that.

I can only assume the eye-popping MSRP was Nikon's ham-fisted attempt to create an air of caché (a la Monte Blanc, Cartier, et al) for this model. Unfortunately high-end electronics don't work well with this strategy. It can be done (e.g. Apple) but it's not an easy combination to pull off.

Have you held one, it was flashback to the olden days. The quality was awesome, the sound and controls were a dream and it just felt right till I heard the price. Anyway, I want one but not for the current price.

They really are nice cameras.

I feel that way about the Leica M, personally. I think the only Nikon camera I get nostalgic about is the Nikon FE.

I don't see it as a search but as an option. It's not like Nikon changed all their models to look and feel like the Df.

They offered a product that would (or they thought it would) appeal to photographers that want to go "old style" and use legacy lenses.

As far as I'm concerned, I like the camera's weight and looks. At first I found it a bit confusing to use with the button layout. But I got used to it quite fast and to me, it's main feature is the wonderful sensor.

But in no way is it meant to be a replacement for D610, 750 and 800 series.

Just to note almost 9 months later - there are very few (namely silvers) on the used market both on ebay and across all the bigger forums and when they do pop up, they change hands very quickly especially with decent prices. Same I noticed with Fuji X-Pro 1. Good or bad, but people are hunting and hanging onto theirs.

I think it would make a great 3rd body. I loved that sub-$750 price in the OP! Didn't last long.
Do they drop the price for 24 hours just to get people talking about them again?
I sure took the time to hold one last time I was in a shop. I smiled.

It wasn't a sub $750 price, it was $750 Off of the price. This dropped it down to $1,999.

Duh... still recovering from 4 days of putting up and taking down a wedding venue for my eldest nephew. VERY tired!

First wedding I have been to since renewing my interest in SLRs last year. Weddings for me are far and few between, but I have been reading about wedding photography here on Nikonites.
They shot those other cameras, but she had a BEAUTIFUL 1.2 prime on one of her (3) bodies.
Good party! Two good families coming together!
