Df & Manual Lenses

I have read a small bit from people who say this camera is
easier to use with MF lenses...
How accurate a statement is this?

As my eyesight seems to be, well, not as good as quite some
years ago... using my manual focus glass seems a bit more
difficult. I like my lenses, but find I am not using them as much
as I would like...

Anyone have any thoughts?

thanks

I find it quite usable. Sometimes I miss but there is always the LiveView option. If a shot is critical, sometimes I'll use LiveView.

Thank you, Marcel...
Had not thought about "live view".
Used to looking through the viewfinder for the little "green dot".
Perhaps the Df is really no different than any other dslr(?)

Well, with my other cameras (7000, 600 and 700), I had to replace the focusing screen (focusing screen) but I can manage with the Df. So I think the focusing glass in the Df might be a bit different. But, with 1.4 and 1.2 lenses, if you want to be really certain, then LiveView is the way to go.

Ok... I understand why people are saying the Df
is better for mf lenses then...
With the addition of the LiveView ability....

appreciate your input on this, Marcel! :)

I use the green dot method myself and it works pretty well. It would have been nicer if they had a focus screen designed specifically for the manual focus lenses as a lot of people use those old lenses on the DF. But must of the time the green dot or live view will work.
I like my old AI-s glass but might sell a few because now I bought a 70-200mm f4 and AF and VR will more convenient for me the way I shoot.

@aroy & @nghtlurkr
This is interesting. How are these added to the camera?
And, the S Type, would "strengthen" the depth of field?
Does this mean there would be more magnification?

Matt screen designed properly enhances the DOF perceived in the view finder

Split Screen helps in fixing manual focus spot on. When two parts of the split screen are aligned, the object is in focus. As the split screen is in the centre, off centre focusing will be a problem

Is the split screen like the old slr cameras used to be?
And by turning the mf lens to focus the image, the two parts of the
split, actually line up?

Doesn't this split get in the way of the view or object you are trying to see?

I know I sound really dense. When I have hands on something, it is easier
for me to "see" what we are talking about... sorry

I have never used one on DSLR, but specifications and other users say it is same as in the older SLR cameras.

Yes it will obstruct the view partially, but once in focus the view will be continuous.

If you can get hold of an SLR camera with a split screen, you can check and clear your doubts.

Go to the website mentioned earlier and they have examples of screen shots with different type of focusing screen.
