Nikon Japan announced a new DF-GR1 grip for Nikon Df camera. Shipping will start on February 5th, 2015 and the price will be ¥16,200 (around $130). There is no indications if the DF-GR1 will be available for sale outside Japan (still not listed at Nikon USA), but you can already buy one from eBay.

Third party manufacturers are already selling battery grips for Nikon Df cameras (now available also on Amazon).

What is the point of a grip this small? How does this help?

The only thing I can see with this grip is that it is meant for people with larger hands. The DF when held tends to be quite smallish and may seem uncomfortable. I know that as much as I like the looks of the DF it does end up not feeling as comfortable to grip.

It is bizarre IMHO that there is no Nikon VG for this camera.......the third party grips are supposed to be ok but you have the goofy cord hanging out.

Weird, the camera is supposed to emulate late model Nikon film cameras like F2 and FM and they were all gripped.

I just don't get it.....

I really like the Df a lot (what is not to like has a D4 sensor!!) but no OEM grip is kind of a deal breaker for me......

Not sure what benefits one would have getting one. Doesn't make the body much bigger and what functions does it have. It's a $130 non L bracket.

Even the third party manufacturers have yet to get this figured out - the Df needs a retro styled battery grip, simulating the look of an old motor drive. Nobody wants this expensive little doodad, and nobody wants a modern styled battery grip. Retro styling is the whole point here!

I ended up buying the grip for my Df. It does seem expensive for what it is, and in pics it doesn't look like much. Its not like the grip for the XT-1 for example. But it does make quite a difference in the handling of the camera.

I also bought the shutter button which was another $30.

One annoyance for the grip is that there is no second hole on the bottom like a battery grip to screw in the tripod plate.
To use a tripod or monopod you have to remove the grip.

Oops must have been blind. I made a mistake there is a hole for the tripod mount on the bottom of the grip. :p

I must have been looking for it in the darK:p
