Maybe you're thinking of the Nikon Rumors article that stated the D500, along with the D3500 and D5600, won't be replaced (with another DSLR)?

I certainty don't see Nikon discontinuing the D500 any time soon.

I read that, too, but long ago I also read where Nikon was going to focus more on its pro bodies. Since the D500 is their pro DX body, I can't foresee them doing away with it (or a replacement).

With the need they have to push the mirrorless range if they want to compete, its possible they see no need to update the D500 lets be honest it is one great camera.

Yeah, that's what this means. That said, I was going through the NPS qualifications the other day and was gobsmacked to learn that my D610 and D750 earn more points towards their pro equipment status than the D500, which I have to figure is their only real choice for some Sports given the reach the DX sensor gives you over the D5, which is the only other camera that can match its frame rate.

I fully expect Nikon to have a Z body that will eventually make the D500 a thing of the past, but I love mine enough that I bought a second as there are some wildlife situations where a 300mm is too long and you don't have time to change. $1250 is a nice price, but it's only 17% less than new and you can occasionally find deals that include the grip, so I'd rather go with the full warranty.

I didn't even know the D610, D7100, or D7200 were part of their program. It's been a long time since I checked, but I thought the D750 was my only qualifying body. Thanks for the info.

With the D500 going down in price, if I need a new body I know that's what I'm getting at this point. It's a better camera for me than anything else Nikon is making, including the mirrorless models. I can easily see myself using the D500 for a long time to come.

They no longer count bodies or lenses as "professional" or not, they ascribe points to everything and you need to have more than a certain cap in both bodies and lenses, and possibly accessories. The biggest hurdle for entry is the requirement that you earn 100% of your income from photography using Nikon equipment. I spoke to an NPS rep that my brother (the Canon rep) introduced me to and he said that he'd be happy to try and help my application along should I submit one, but that they're very strict about that piece of it and there's little he can do to push me past it.

I can see that Woody. I always enjoy the stuff you post and I remember the cool things you started catching with that increased frame rate. I really got excited about the D500 when it came out but for all practical purposes I could not see myself fully utilizing it. But that is the nice thing about Nikon. They do have a good offering and if you take time you can find the right fit. I know the Z6 works great for me. It suites the kind of stuff I shoot mostly, but lets me stretch a bit as well learning new things and doing stuff I could not do befor

That refurb price looks pretty good.
