Ever heard of Digital Oulets?

I recently saw an ad for a place called Digital Outlets. I looked over their product offering and the prices seem too good to be true. For example, a new D810 for only $1,995, a full $1,000 less than Amazon. I looked all over to see if they were selling gray market but could not see it. Anybody ever dealt with them?

Yes, I have and I've had no problems with them at all. It's absolutely grey market product, though, so know what you're doing if you do decide to go this route.

Their reviews on Reseller Ratings look good...

What do you guys call grey market product?
Are these replicas or simply not made in USA?

Grey Market products are the exact same product as sold elsewhere but not supposed to be sold in the US market. In the case of Nikon if we buy a grey market Nikon they will not honor the warranty or even work on the camera even if we pay them. I suspect the it is a way of protecting U.S. companies from having to compete with foreign companies where the exchange rate would be more favorable to them.

Grey market is any product not intended for sale in the country/region of delivery. In the USA, any Nikon product not labeled Nikon USA (intended for sale outside the US but sold to a customer in the USA) would be considered Grey Market.

As grey market product, Nikon USA would not provide warranty, or service for the item. From what I understand, Nikon Authorized service centers would also decline to service the product. The only option for service or repair would be through an independent service center or the place of sale. In addition, if an item intended for purchase in a particular region is sold by an unauthorized seller, it is also considered grey market.

Another way of putting it, grey market is any legal sale of a product outside the sales/distribution channels intended and/or authorized by the manufacturer or importer of the product.

That's the way I understand it.

Also a lot of time when a price is to good to be true the company will open the package and remove all the accessories like the strap and battery and once they sell it to you they ask you if you want a battery and strap and then sell those back to you at an inflated price. Once you get everything that should have been included with the camera to begin with you have spent more for the camera than you would have at any other dealer.
