There are two versions of this lens. The initial version didn't have the Piezo Drive as didn't perform as well. I think the lens is on sale because Tamron announced the 16-300 F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD which is supposed to be available next month. I picked up the FX sorta equivalent (28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD VC) when I moved to full-frame for situations when changing lenses were inconvenient. I was pleased with the results. The 28-300 was easily comparable to the Nikon 18-200 (first version) that I had with my D300.

I have this lens. I find it very convenient for those times when you don't want to carry your whole arsenal around with you. I find it a bit soft tho.

Just recommended this lens to one of our junior members who photographs for her locally news organization. She needs the shot when the opportunity presents and there is no time to fumble with changing lenses. In the same circumstance this is probably the one I would own and the price is very attractive right now.
