Wobbly lens

My Nikon 18-70mm 3.5-4.5G ED has a slight lateral play at the filter end. Haven't noticed this before although it might have always been there. Is this a great concern? Haven't notice any problem with pics though.

Thanks

If the picture are coming out fine nothing to worry about. My zoom lenses have some movement. The inner and outer barrel must have some play or the lens would not zoom easily.

Thanks for that. Any help with a 'cheap' macro lens? Not necessary a Nikon one?

Brian

How cheap is "cheap" for you, Brian? I picked up a used Nikkor Micro 40mm in very good shape from B&H a little while ago for just over a hundred dollars, US. That short a focal length does carry with it some inherent limitations of course, but if you don't need a longer lens then I think it's one of the best values out there, even at full price.

I really like my Tokina 100 f/2.8, its $349 at Adorama. It doubles as a great portrait lens too. No autofocus motor in the lens so be sure your camera has the screwdrive for autofocus.

Just seen this for sale on ebay for £119. NIKON AIS 55MM F2.8 AI-s MICRO NIKKOR PRIME MACRO LENS. Would it be a good one? Not a 1:1 but good enough for me.
