Using The Fn Function Button to recall two unique settings at C1 and C2

I have tried to make sense out of the Ken Rockwell D90 user guide and generally it is helpful, however, he describes a step he takes like this: After assigning two unique camera settings, say C1 and C2 (like with more or less saturation and more or less white balance) what he says is that he programs the Fn button "to get him into the menus with one hand." In my case the C1 and C2 exist now and the camera recognizes them but when I press the Fn button I am taken to the screen that allows me to edit/save these settings, but not switch between the two. Pressing the right arrow allows me to see the C1 and C2 and it indicates which the camera has in play, however, I cannot switch from the one in play to the other from this point. All I can do is move to a completely separate menu category and after several clicks eventually change C1 to C2 or vice versa. The Rockwell dialogue suggests he does it more simply. If you read his stuff you'll see he uses his C1 setting for pictures of stuff and C2 for pictures of people. That is something that interests me. I was hoping someone here might have performed the magic trick differently and more effectively than I. Thanks!!

Howdy Dave and welcome to Nikonites!!!

I have my Fn button set to enable/visible the virtual horizon in my view finder, so not sure exactly how to change picture profiles with that kind of setup. I'm sure someone will have some ideas though soon!

Thanks for the welcoming comments gents, glad to be here. Of course one avenue would be to buy a camera with user settable functions, like C1, C2 or U1, U2. And one of these days I probably will upgrade. But I enjoy the D90 and I am just trying to get a bit more out of it before I say, "I need a new camera". The other alternative is to use the camera's presets: like "portrait" for people shots and then massage the results. But, Rockwell's explanation seemed so simple right up to the point it wasn't. Ha Ha. So, thanks again. Dave
