nikon d90 doesn't work properly

Hello everyone,
I own nikon d90 for about 5 years now - and recently it stated having some problems with taking pictures…
I can take a picture or 2, may be 3, then it stops - I have to shut it off, let it stay for a couple of seconds, then turn it on again and take another 2-3 photos… Very annoying…
Does anyone know what could be a reason for that?
Having a 7months old baby and not working camera is very upsetting…
Thank you

What happens, exactly, when the camera stops taking photos?

For instance, does the camera shut itself off, does the shutter simply not actuate or... What?

Try the basics first.
Do you have a fresh battery? If the battery is old it might not be a full power anymore even it you have just taken it off the charger.
Make sure the lens is fully seated. Take it off and put it back on making sure you hear/feel it click.
Make sure the SD card does not have a problem (probably not this)

As a last ditch effort try resetting the camera back to factory settings

Press the "+/- Exposure Compensation" button and the "AF Mode" button at the same time and hold for 2 or 3 seconds. Both of these buttons should be marked by a green dot.

This will reset everything back to the factory settings so you will need to go back and set the camera back up to how you normally shoot.

This camera is a nice little camera but it is 8 year old tech and probably would cost more to repair than it would to replace with newer tech,

Confirming Pauls question,as if you have the camera in AF-A it will work the focus but unless you get focus it will not take a picture.

Hi there, I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have exactly the same problem.

My shutter will go about half way and get stuck while taking a picture, if I turn off and turn back on it will work a few more clicks and then stop and say "ERR" on the display. The only thing I haven't tried is a factory reset.

My bigger question is, should I even TRY to fix it, or just get a new Nikon? My camera is about 8 years old and has 41074 shutter clicks.

This thread is over a year old so not much activity. Try to do the factory reset first and then if that does not work you may need to replace. 41074 is not that many shutter clicks.
