So i bought a used Nikon d90 and it has around 15000 shutter actuations and i recently read on a website that it is limited to around 20000. is this correct? and when its dead where can i get a shutter replacement?

Re: Nikon d90

Every camera shutter survival rate will be different but from what I understand Nikon has tested their shutter system up to 100,000 clicks. I would expect that to be average. Some will fail before that but you probably can expect the shutter to go well beyond that number. You should not suffer a shutter failure for a very long time and by then you will probably want more up to date technology.

The information regarding shutter actuations is hidden in the EXIF data of each photo taken. To find the number you can down load a simple program (free) that will display the count on the last photo taken. I've never used the program. I'm not that curious about it. However here it is. If you want more information about the subject just Google: D90 shutter actuation count (or any other Nikon dslr camera).

I own a Windows PC and use My Shutter Count because there aren't any software downloads needed. I simply upload a photo then wait for it to process the information.

I love my D90 which is now 6 years old and shutter count is 83,000+ and still going strong. I don't know anything about shutter limit, I just update the firmware whenever a new one is available. I love this camera with the 2 kit lenses (18-105 and 70-300). I believe it will last for another five years.
