Looking for a new lens for my D90, Need help deciding!

I have a D90 Nikon that I am still learning to shoot with. It didn't have any lenses when it was given to me by one of my golf students. So I picked up some inexpensive glass off of e-Bay. First I bought a Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6D AF lens (for $75) as I really wanted the reach it has. The second lens I bought was the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 (for $90) because everyboy I talked to said I would love it and I do. Now I am looking for another lens to fall in love with. Maybe someting a bit wider, but I am not real sure whether to get a wide angle prime or a zoom that starts wide. I am not just considering Nikon/Nikkor lenses either, Sigma, Tokina or Rokinon(?) and maybe some other brands will be looked at equally

Thanks for any suggestions in advance;

If 50 is the smallest, I would try to get something wide. Especially for landscapes and shots that you need a wide angle, 50 might not cut it, especially on a DX camera. I'd get something around 24ish. But it also depends on your goals. If you never do landscapes, and solely do say sports, or wildlife.. you might just be wasting money if you'll never use a wide angle.

The others on here are on the right track asking what kind of photography you're into. As long as the lens is compatible with your camera body, it is really of little consequence what camera you have when choosing a lens, but has everything to do with what you want to the lens to do for you

Into animals.. portraits... birds... all around?
You might want to consider the Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED. This is the lens that rarely comes off my camera any more and when it does it's typically for a 35mm prime. The lens I'll be getting next is the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT Pro DX; for your D90 you'd need the newer DXII version (that has an AF motor) but this looks like a really fun, creative lens.

^^^ Not correct. The D90 has a focus motor, hence will autofocus any AF lens including the version 1 of the Tokina 11-16 which by the way is an awesome lens. Prices have dropped considerably on it since the V2 came out.

My main focus of photography so far has been distant objects and wildlife, but I feel that has been driven by my limited lens selection. I would love to be close to something and get the whole image in the shot.

Here's an example of a distant object I shot on the way home from work this morning.

I'll second the 18-105. Decent reach and decently wide. It's my go to walkaround lens.

Good choice. I just got one from Dury's on sale $346 plus tax. I believe with the prime and the 70-300, you've covered about 95% or more of your lens needs. Of course, you can never have too many lol

Strange - I got an email on Epoc's post. Not showing on Tapatalk iPhone but when I click the link on email, goes to the website and it shows. Guess another great feature of Tapatalk2.
