Nikon D850 for $2600 - NEW

Well of course when I called on it I found out that it is a grey market camera. The question becomes "Is it worth the $700 or so savings to have no warranty?" I've never bought grey market before, but this is tempting. Thoughts?

Re: Nikon D850 for $2600 - NEW! Is it worth it?

Personally I wouldn't buy grey market. Not everything can be fixed by the other repair places, but that's just me. However, before you buy, be sure to check out ratings of the seller. There are some sellers that received really bad comments from buyers.

And some grey market items don't include everything such as a battery charger. The sellers try to upsell those other things that are typically included with a Nikon USA body. So in the end, a grey market D850 might cost more than the advertised price when you factor in all the normal things you'd usually receive. Good luck with whatever you decide.

A lot of money to pay for a potential paperweight. Of course, it could serve you for years, but that is quite a gamble. I just would not buy anything grey market.

I've had nothing but good experiences buying grey market but... I always knew exactly what I was getting when I did so and I was in a position to accept what I perceived to be the minimal risk.

I ended up getting a used model at a modest savings. It was highly rated on the used scale and showed up in the box with all the original accessories. Everything was still in the original plastic bags. Some one must have had either buyers remorse or a spouse with the same remorse. I will respond with a shutter count as soon as I get one.
