Stacked image

I don't know anything really at all in how to properly use this feature, so I have a lot to learn.

This is just eleven (11) stacked images using Helicon Focus.

One hint I can give is to make sure you use a separate folder on your card for the images otherwise its a real mess!

Focus stacking is a lot of fun.

Thanks MM, just been doing some reading up on it (boy oh boy have I been doing some reading this last couple of months!) and think its going to be something that I like doing.

I just did a stack of a clover flower and posted it in another thread. For that one I used LR to do the stack (I didn't even know that you could do a stack in LR) and for me it was a much simpler exercise than using Helicon Focus.

So much to learn!

I tried focus stacking one time just to understand it. I will probably revisit that technique since I like macro. I tend to gravitate towards critters and objects rather than people photos. I feel totally awkward pointing a camera at a person. :shame:

Heard about this feature in Steve Perry's review of the camera. Looks like it works well, and infinitely better than manually focus stacking.

I don't think you can do a true photostack in lightroom ,though ,theres a merge feature for panoramas and HDR , ( when you select several and right click on one ) . I could be wrong about this though since I haven't tried it.

That's what I thought too. I have tried Focus stack in Photoshop with the same images I tried using Zerene and I preferred the results from Zerene by far. It was a free trial version and I ended up letting it expire without buying it. May still do so, just need to decide between Zerene and Helicon.

Yes you're 100% correct. What a boof head I am! All I ended up doing was 'stacking' a group of photos into a 'folder' they weren't focus stacked. I should have realised when it happened so fast compared to the amount of time Helicon takes to make a stack.

If anyone wants to play around with focus stacking without the prospect of having to spend money, try http://www.picolay.de. Its primary drawback vs. Zerene and Helicon is that it cannot process RAWs, so you'll have to edit your pics and convert them to JPEG first.
