Still details yet to be confirmed and ultimately the purchase price that we know will be high, I did read that here in the UK it will be around £1000.00 more than the original D810 cost....................!

Speaking of the D850. I've been reading some comments on other photo websites and forums, that some people who own both a D810 and a D500 together, are ready to sell both of their cameras to buy this for the purpose of having an all in one body.

To me, this makes no sense. Even if the D850 can do whatever the D810 and the D500 can, you are now down to one camera without a backup.

I saw some of those same notes. It makes no sense to me either. I would think the 850 and 500 would be a great combo.

Been a while since i posted here, but i pulled the trigger on a pre-order as soon as it was announced for sale. Given the fact that Nikon is now sold out of current production stock, i wonder if i am high enough on the pre-order list to get one in the first shipment, fingers crossed !!!

S...the D850 can do whatever the D810 and the D500 can, you are now down to one camera without a backup.

When walking long distances many use the D810 for FX high resolution (landscape) and D500 for reach (wildlife).
Since the D850 has the same effect cropped + same AF + only slightly lower Frames Per Second as the D500, it could safe weight and place only running around with a D850.
Many indeed state: sell D810 + D500 to get D850 now + safe up to have a 2nd D850 as backup.

I also prefer to run with 2 bodies and different lenses on them, when something pops up you should be as ready as you can.

P.S.: Not buying the D850, ... yet. Just got a D800, waiting a few years for a D850 at great price.

I've done long hikes, including several multi-day ones, in the rain forests of Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru; I've toured Alaska, Patagonia, South Africa, China, Japan and lots of places in-between. With 10+ different bodies and in more than 20 years, I never had a fail, neither from a body nor a card, so I don't get the backup argument. Strikes me as more of an ease of mind thing. Yes, it is possible for something to fail, but the likelihood is so low that carrying a good pocket camera just-in-case works fine for me.

Where in my view the argument gets different is in Vincent's point about readiness. When out and about in the wilderness, I prefer to have a long lens on my D500 and a shorter one on my D7100 or D700, so whatever crosses my path, I am ready. That's why I may opt for the 1350 solution (850+500) at some point. ;)

I used to think that as well, until one morning when getting ready to drive down to Florida for our once a year meet and greet, I took a test shot just before getting in the car.

My shutter failed. Not a good feeling when you're going to a once a year event and you have no backup camera.
