Nikon WiFi Module Tethering

I going to be in Italy in April, and I want to tether my D810 out in the field. I won't be doing any editing in the field or or in Italy for that matter, I just want to make sure my framing and exposure are OK before I walk away with a bunch bad shots. I'm getting a Hoodman Hoodloupe but my near vision isn't so great. I shoot almost exclusively on a tripod.

I have a great tablet which works great for this purpose with D610, but it doesn't have a USB 3.0 port for tethering to the D810. So I've been looking a newer, small tablets, 2-in-1, laptops for something that's light and has just enough power to meet my very basic needs. Good ones are more than I want to spend and really good ones are ...

Anyway it occurred to me my existing tablet has wifi, what if get the Nikon wifi module and tether them that way.

Anybody got any info on this?

Have you tried tethering the D810 to the tablet? I tethered mine to an old USB 2 laptop and it seemed to work OK.

I think you'll be disappointed trying to tether via Nikon's Wifi dongles...

I’ve found WiFi only usable to transfer (jpg) images.

Have you tried using a cable adapter to tether your camera to your tablet?
