Nikon D810 record button

I have a friend with D810 and he's having problems with his record button. Sometimes he hits the record button and when he's done he hits it again but it won't turn off. He has to turn the camera off to stop it recording. There times he keeps on pressing the record button but it will not record. Is the a settings issue or does it have to go to Nikon. I'm having him do a system reset to see what that does.

I would start with the system reset as you suggested and go from there.

I’ve just started using my D810 for video working, but have not had any problems with starting/stopping video or any of the video functionality for that matter. Just make sure the switch next to live view on the back of the camera is in video mode, and mine has been reliable.

I've talked with a couple of people and they don't think it's the camera, they think it's the cards. They are not fast enough to shoot video. I think this could be the answer. I got him some fast UDA 7 cards to see if this fixes the problem. I'm pretty sure he was using older slower cards. I'll let you know what happens. thanks for your input.

Well I tried all the suggestions, using faster memory cards and reset the camera . The camera still won't take video at certain times. You turn the camera to live view video, the sound volumes show on the left of the back screen to indicate you are in movie mode, but when you press the record button nothing happens. You have to take out the battery, re-install, and the movie mode works. I'm out of bullits. Anyone with any help would be apppreciated.

I don't think so. How hot are we talking?

I wouldn't know what the temperature limit for recording is but apparently there is a safeguard that once the sensor hits a certain degree, the cam won't record. It does all else but won't record.

I read somewhere that a sensor that is 21°C will reach around 41° after an hour of live-view. If you're in a hot environment or the cam has a heating problem it's possible it reaches its limit.

I've been through the manual and they point to unresponsive issues with live-view and internal heating especially mentioning periods of recording. Maybe the problem has something to do with this. It's easily tested; if it stops responding, turn the cam off and let it cool. If you switch it on again and all is fine, it was "overheating".

When the problem happens, thyetake the battery out the put it back in and the camera works fine. I'm going to check it out tonight to see what they are doing with the camera. Thanks for the info.

any luck in reproducing or preventing?
I had it once, but I have filmed only once or twice. I had the problem, when the battery in the grip was empty, and it fell back on the body battery. Maybe you have battery problems?

Using D810 + MB-D12 + 2x EN-EL15 + Tamron 15-30mm VC
