    D810 and Err message

Started getting this message today, Err when I press the shutter. Cleaned the contacts, updated the firmware, tried different lenses but still getting the message. It takes an image but also will not go into live view, and yes I did reset it to factory, still no joy. Any suggestions? I started using my backup d800 on two shoots today but am worried the d810 has gone south on me, 45,165 shutter count.

Not a solution, but if you take the lens off and fire some shots in manual mode, you might see something wrong with the shutter or mirror motion. That would be bad news, but at least you would know for sure its not an easy fix.

Maybe try to see if it can raise the mirror for cleaning. If it is unable to do that, try swapping batteries. I've seen other devices where the battery says its fully charged, but it doesn't have the juice to function properly.

Memory card? Probably not, but try a different one if you haven't already.

Guess I'll just dump it on ebay and buy another, maybe time for a switch, lots of real estate/architectural photographers switching to sony full frame mirrorless and using adapters for Nikon and Canon lenses, just really disappointed that I am having issues at 45K shots with a $3000 body.

I'm so sorry to read about this buddy. I wish I had some insight on the issue, but I have no clue and it sounds like you already tried any thing I could have come up with.

I'm glad you still have a D800 for back up my friend. A D810 and my D800e for back up was what I had wanted, but there is no chance of that now. Can you send your D810 in to get it fixed? I hate the idea you have to give up on the D810 to go to another brand buddy.

Well I wish you all the best on getting the issue solved my friend.

I am sure glad you ordered another D810 buddy!

I wish you the best luck on your sale too! If I had any money I could spare, I would put in a bid myself!

Thanks Bill, these things are just tools, although needed tools, I hate learning new ones. I can get by until the new one arrives, as long as nothing happens to the D800.

Too late to do much about it, but for a camera that expensive, I'd buy it from a retailer that offers an extended full coverage 3 year warranty.

I wish I could afford to buy your damaged D810 but the timing is wrong. I'll be able to afford it AFTER you've already sold it.

I'm sure I could fix it. Just not sure what it would cost for the required parts.
