My D810 review

I rented the D810 with the Nikkor 14-24mm lens today. Pictures came out nice, but they are not much better than pictures you can get from much cheaper cameras. I am wondering if my pictures came out worse, since I could not DL pictures onto my computer in RAW. Be that as it may, for a $3300 camera and $1800 lens, you should get a lot better JPGs. My T3i had pictures that were not that far off from the D810's. As a result, I am disappointed. The D810 should only be $1500 and the lens should be $750. Camera companies are gouging prices. You can get very nice pics out of smart phones now. Camera companies who make these "higher-end" cameras might go extinct.

So you have your answer and saved a whole lot of money by renting first.

Indeed. I learned a lot today. There might just be a conspiracy to promote these expensive cameras, even though they are not that great.

Dave Dougdale said it best from LearnDSLR.com when he compared the T3i to the 5DMIII. He said the latter is not worth the money.

Are you serious? Not that great? The Nikon D810 is one of the best cameras on the market...I have not seen any of your work, but please don't blame the camera... P.S... I see no D810 review in this thread..

I think it is a great idea to hire first - try before you buy. As Marcel says it will have saved you a bundle.

Unicorns are extinct - but man wouldn't it be nice to see a herd of them? :D I guess a lot of things could become extinct - especially in technology - so let's enjoy them while we can.

Are you sure they are extinct? I thought I saw one just the other day.;)

No - they really are extinct. What you saw was something further down the evolution chain - soon to be extinct too, so enjoy.

Actually take a photo and post so I can enjoy too. ;)

You actually rented that piece of crap??? I would ask for a refund if i were you and insist that they never rent out such garbage ever again. I agree with you man, Nikon has it all backwards. The D810 really should be an entry level camera; after all, my D3000 could take better photos then that lump of lame as* electronics. Nikon sucks and the D810 sucks even more. Great "review", hope to see more. Anyhow, got to get back to my card game with Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa.

No, they do exist. But the day I saw one at Arches National Monument was the only day of my western trip that my camera failed to fire. I attribute it to the Mother Ship hovering overhead. Now I hear that the unicorns are gathering at Area 51. Perhaps one of our Western Nikonites can confirm this for us.

I have to say that of all the many reviews I have read and YouTube videos I have watched that you seem to be the only one that has come to that conclusion. Wonder why that is?

Are you serious? The 14-24's edge to edge sharpness is the envy of every ultra wide zoom on the planet (plus some primes). I can't comment on the 810 'cause I shoot with a lowly D600. Comparing this combo to a smartphone is like comparing a Ferrari to a Ford Focus. But then, not everyone has the skill to drive a Ferrari.

When seeing a thread titled review, I would expect to see "a review". No comparison shots, no intelligent reasons to back up your findings. Really? Photography is allot more than grabbing a pro body, pointing it at some random object and thinking it will magically produce amazing images. Sorry if I don't take your comments seriously.

I know unicorns exist as well! While I was on a college visit with my daughter on Saturday, they had a Paris Hilton music video on tv where we had lunch, and there was a unicorn in the video. It was even taped close up, and everything!

I can't say as to whether Ms. Hilton is a good singer, though; the volume was turned all the way down...

If you are really a doubter, you could search for the video on youTube, and I'll bet you'd find it.
