D800 Bracketing: Taking Multiple EV Exposures

Hi there, can someone out there help explain to me how to setup my D800 to take multiple EV exposures (5 at 1EV) with a single press of the shutter release? I have played with the category and sub-category dials while pressibe the Bracketing button but nothing changes...I do not see an option to choose number of exposures or number of EV steps. Thank you! Lisa

What does the manual say? I'm sorry I don't have a D800 to work with… Maybe next year ;)

Sorry Lisa, can't offer any help either. I pre-ordered from B&H… I have been waiting for months upon its arrival. Just curious, did you pre order, or have you found a seller that has them on the shelf?

Initially, go to menu - (f) Controls - (f8) sub menu and set Assign BKT button. In the sub menu of f8, there are 3 selections, HDR, Multiple Exposure and BKT Auto Bracketing. Select BKT Auto Bracketing and press OK. Having done that, press and hold BKT button on top left of your D800 while you set number of Frames or shots (0F to 9F) adjustment using the Main Command dial (back of camera). To adjust the exposure increments, use the sub command dial (front of camera).

I use this for my HDR shots and my BKT set up is 5F 1.0. I hope this helps. Congratulations for owning a Nikon D800. I enjoy using it for all my events. Mario, mariolopezphotography's Photos | SmugMug

Most likely like the same as the other nikons. You push the bracketing button look at the LCD (top) roll the control buttons to select number of shots, roll the other to select EV value then press and HOLD the shutter release to take consecutive shots. But the manual should inform.

Initially, go to Menu, Custom Settings, f Controls, f8 sub menu and set Assign BKT button by choosing BKT Auto Bracketing. Having done that, press and hold BKT button (top left of camera), turn Main Command dial (back of camera) to set number of frames and then turn Sub-Command dial (front of camera) to set EV increments. Rotate Release Mode dial to CL for continues shooting. Set your prefer exposure, press and hold Shutter Release button. This is my settings for HDR photography, 5F 1.0, Manual or Aperture Priority. The 5 shots results are, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2 (Bracketing order is set at Menu - e Bracketing/flash - e7 Bracketing order - Under>MTR>over. Read more info. in your D800 Manual about bracketing on page 307-308. The manual is not very clear. Hope this helps :)

Thank you very much, I have been bracketing for a little while and love it but used a wireless remote instead of the cord one and my D800 wouldn't do bracketing any more. I was at the point of going out and buying another D800 body so your help was wonderful. Don

HI Lisa i have the answer to your problem just figured it myself. I presume you have set auto bracketing and bracketing burst to on. Then what you do is select how many bracketed photos you want by pressing the bracket button and then the command dial, Then what you do is you put your finger on the FN button which is the upper button on the D800 not the lower one, its doesn't work if you press the lower one and then hit and hold down the shutter button and the D800 will take the shots in succession without you having to lift your figure off the shutter button. Alternatively you can set your self timer to 3 or more shots put it on self timer mode hit the shutter button and it will take 3 or more shots as you have selected. You can press and release it in this mode good if you are using a tripod the other way is best when hand held. Have fun!
