SD card installed but camera reads "E" (empty)

After putting a Lexar 64 gig SD in in my D800, the readout display says it's "E" (empty) and will not take photos. If I push in the SD card as though I'm going to eject it but hold it in without ejecting it, the camera will notice the card and take photos. What's going on?

If I use a different SD card (Sandisk) everything works as it should.

HELP!!!!

Is the card locked? Look on the side. There is a slider switch that moves up and down. Make sure it is unlocked.

A different card works and this card works when you put extra pressure on it. I'd inspect the card. Check for anything visible on the card contacts. Maybe rub them with a dry q-tip.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

It sound like the card may have a problem. Do you have another camera or a friend with another camera you can try the card in? Perhaps even a camera shop may let you try the card in one of their cameras. If nothing else, I would not recommend using this card, period. It is not worth the risk!

Card looks just fine. The label is worn a bit but otherwise seems to be is good shape.
One of the first things I did was use a bit of rubbing alcohol and a q-tip on the connection points but it did not help.

That's what I thought but why can I push the card in and hold it there as though I'm ejecting it and the camera recognizes the card?

Great idea! I'll try to find someone else to check out the card. It's a shame though because it's not a cheep card. Wonder if Lexar will replace it? It's several years old.
