D800 Mechanical Problem

Recently none of my "buttons" work/respond on my D800 although I can still use shutter and take pix. After checking battery & connections, etc. (all OK), I discovered that the problem occurs only when I have my wireless vello shutterboss connected. Obviously the problem has to do with the connection pins on the body. Has anyone else experienced this? Might there be a DIY fix or I am ready for a pro repair? Thanks.

What Don said. Try the Shutterboss on another camera or try just the cable if it is removable or try a different plug-in device if you have something else that uses the port. You should prove to yourself that the camera or shutterboss is definitely good or bad. I would be hesitant to send my camera into Nikon and say it doesn't work with a 3rd party device without some confidence that they can reproduce the problem without the shutterboss.

If the problem is ONLY occurring with the vello shutterboss connected and the camera is working fine without it being connected, the problem is most likely the Vello device. As suggested above, try the vello shutterboss on another camera.

Thanks to all for your responses. As suggested, I contacted Vello and we decided that the problem is probably with broken/bent pins on the Vello cable, not the D800. Just ordered a replacement for $8.49 and hopr that solves the problem. Will report back later this week.
