What is the fastest memory cards for the D800E

Ah I think I figured the price difference out! The cheaper version is just older cards and the more expensive version cards are more recently made. They are the same version of tech I think, I just think the cheaper ones are older stock! :)

Once you reach a certain point, faster cards are a waste of money. The camera can only shovel data to the card so fast, so it's the weakest link in the chain. Faster cards won't speed anything up.

Yes I understood that my friend. But I am unsure as yet what card compliments my D800E the best. So maybe my wording is wrong, but finding the best cards for my D800E is my goal!:)
This test I posted a link to seemed interesting, and I'm interested in seeing more tests of cards in the D800 that got even better results if they exist! When I think I have found the card that works the best for a reasonable price, I will try to start buying one every month or so till I have several of both the CF cards and the SD cards! :)
Also I am trying to decide between Lexar and Sandisk brands, since I really have had great luck with both brands!:)

But maybe could check out the link about the test in the first post and tell me what you think about it buddy? :)

PS. I'm thinking the cards I just purchased will be what I stock up with unless somebody can show me some cards that are a better cards for the D800E!
I'm still considering going with the Lexar version that has shown to be just as good if not better! But I'm still leaning toward the Sandisk because they seem to be slightly cheaper!

So anybody who wants to recommend one brand over the other between these two brands, I'd be glad to hear why you prefer the brand you are recommending! :)

My 32GB Extreme Pro 160MB/s CF card is fatser than any SD card I use even ones rated faster. So I would be getting more of these if you ask me, the only time the other cards come in handy is when transferring thousands of D800E RAW files from card to computer.

Scott Murray Are you just using the SD card slot for overflow? If so what SD cards are you using for that buddy? I'd like to follow your lead, since it obviously works very well for you! :)

My SD cards are used as overflow, I will get the exact type when I get home. Most of them are Sandisk and I have had no issues with them.

Hey buddy, did you figure out what SD cards you tend to use?

I bought a Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s SDHC1 32 GB that I am using right now as my overflow card! :)

I was looking into the data transfer rate that a D800/810 can achieve to a CF or SD card, and discovered that apparently the camera can transfer data faster than any card I'd ever heard of can handle. 1066x? Yes. 1200x? Yes.

This is really bad news for me because I like to optimize things and get the fastest data transfer possible. There's no point at which a memory card is too fast and the camera can't exploit the extra speed potential.

If the camera could only handle 800x then I'd never buy a 1066x card.

But now Lexar makes CFast cards that run as high as 3400x. That's gonna hurt to buy one of those babies!

When I did my checking, I did NOT actually find any documentation saying what the max transfer rate from the camera to the card really could be. Can it handle 3400x? I honestly don't know but I'd like to find out.

From what read, the 1066 lexar or the 160mb/s Sandisk extreme pro are the the best CF cards for the D8xx series Nikon's! I don't know if those much higher speed cards will even work on any of the D8xx series cameras!
I bought the 32 gig Sandisk extreme pro 160mb/s CF card, and plan on getting more of these over time!:)

I did some more reading and the CFast cards are not compatible with regular CF cards and the D800/810 does not support them. I wonder if they could, with new firmware written for that purpose?
