What grip did you get for your D800?

I'm dying to get a battery grip for my D800e! But the cost for thee OEM grip is outrageous! I'm saving for it, and hopefully it won't be too long before I get one! I got $200.00 saved up so far! :)

So what grip did you get for your D8xx? What did it cost you? How are you liking it?

Bill, I have Zeikos grips for both the D800 and D600 and they work great. No reason to pay through the nose.

With that said, it seems that the bottom has fallen out of the D800 market and it doesn't pay for me to sell it, so I'm holding onto the body for those times when I will need 36MP. But, I will probably never use the Zeikos grip again. If you're interested let me know and I'll cut you a deal on it.

Yes I'm interested! Is it made of metal like the OEM grip? I would have pmed you, except it's not available in your profile.

Nah. None of the 3rd party stuff is metal. But it's solid enough. It was $66 when I bought it. I'll take $45 shipped to you. Let me know. No idea what they're going for, but less than that and I might as well keep it too.

They are going a bit less than that new on amazon right now, so your better off keeping it my friend.
Here is their grip

But thank you anyway buddy! :)

Totally understand. At least you know it's a solid grip. I can't see any reason to get a Nikon grip unless you're doing some seriously rugged work. You can buy, break and replace this one 4 times and still be ahead of the game.

This sounds great! My beloved wife thinks I should get the OEM grip, and this is a another plus I should keep in mind! I wonder if my other OEM grips will work with a bigger battery too? The D700 and D 300 both have the OEM grips!
Well tomorrow I'll decide one way or another, though the OEM grip is where I'm leaning for the quality of it's build! :)

I got the OEM one with the D4 battery compartment, makes a big difference.

I have both, bought an oem for my 800 which now found its way to the 810, bought a mike for the 800. The oem is great even on a tripod, the mike not great on a tripod but ok in the hands. The oem is great but pricey. I thought I had read one of the 3rd party grips was made out of metal?

I saw what looked like a knockoff that was metal out of China, but didn't want to risk it for $170 or so! But I just bought the OEM grip today and a L bracket to go with! :)

i have the Nikon grip, I bought it at the same time as the D800, I think it was $ 450 Cdn plus tax at the time. Absolutely no issues. I had Nikon ones for my D300 & D300s & no issues, so I stuck with them. For wedding work, I don't take chances.

I always buy the cheapest grip I can get ..rip out the connnector and carry spare AA for the flash in one ,spare EN EL 15 in another and in the D800 one I put a tracker with fake battery logos to fool the theif ....well it gives me a chance if the gear or car gets stolen. Had too many problems with grips failing to trust one.

My new OEM grip arrived way faster than expected which I'm very thankful for! Lol So finallymy D800e feels right and my shots are better because of it too! I'm still hating the cost, but I admit to feeling relieved that it is OEM and feels right, so I guess it is worth it! I'm still waiting on the L bracket, but I am using a bracket the fits the battery grips until my L bracket arrives!
Here are a few shots I took after getting my grip! :)

Awesome! You'll love having it if you use your tripod much, and especially for portraits! Good hunting buddy! I hope you'll find a good one at a cheap price my friend! :) I use a L bracket on all my DSLRs! :)

Now I am looking for BMBD11-L: L-plate for D7000 Grip, cos of this thread. WOW, thax Bill Buddy that you mentioned it.

Well my L bracket arrived today for my D800e, and I have now learned why I should have went with a better brand! It seems that the cheaper L brackets aren't as ridged as the better brands, so I'll use this one until I can buy a better one later! I'll likely buy a kirk brand version unless I can find a ARCA swiss brand, or a really right stuff brand maybe! A used one would be good if I could find it in great shape! Lo! :)

@siamthai1 Watch out buddy to buy a good brand, because my L bracket Neewer brand isn't as ridged as I look for a bracket to be! I'll be buying a better brand of L bracket later when I can afford to spend the extra money on it!
I'll likely buy a Kirk brand one, since I've seen one being sold at adoroma I think for around $180 . I'll have to wait and look once I have the money! :)
