How much should I pay for my D800?

I have a really great deal on a D800 right now and the camera has around 25,000 clicks. I'm wondering how much should I be paying for it? The deal is really too good to pass up, but just curious what others think on the matter.
Thanks!

I wouldn't pay more than what a refurbed D800 sells for regardless of actuations...

looks like reputable dealers are selling refurbed, with warranty, for right at $2400

He claims it's never been experienced with his specimen, I believe him. He's a friend and knows his gear pretty well.

It's not something you would catch unless you specifically do the tests described in that link. I would strongly urge you do the experiment.

Dave is right..I still think you should get a brand new D610..Little less noise, better color rendering, and less MP to have to deal with..Zero actuations...

I wish you the best. personally I would never buy a camera used. if the shutter goes (knock on wood) thats a few hundred dollars and you dont have warranty for that. I bought mine new with 3 years mack vip diamond warranty (an all risk type) and it costed $170. and the shutter will die. its just a matter of time. check it well and fingers crossed all checks out ok. dont want to be a debbie downer, Its just these cameras are sophisticated and any small thing costs so much.

Because I sold my first 800 on EBay for the insane price of $4500, my fi rst 800 cost about the same.

I see where you're coming from, but understand that cameras are a lot more resilient than you think. I mean, when was the last time you heard of a camera like that having that sort of issue at 24k clicks? Especially from someone you know well? Especially a gear-head that you know well? Of course the shutter will die. Eventually. But the thing is, how many years of use will I get out if it? Three months or (more likely) three + years? My bet is on a camera of this caliber, 4+ years is about right, and even then there are D90's that are still going strong, far outliving their estimated lifespan on the shutter mechanism.

Granted, if I were buying say, a 3200 or similar I wouldn't be buying used :p This just happened to fall into my lap from a good photographer friend who I trust and know well.

.

Not to rain on your parade but my 800's shutter fell to pieces right around 30k. It's well documented here on Nikonites (indeed, I ranted and raved a bit about it). I was at the Miramar air show when it crapped out. Nevertheless, even if your shutter fell apart the day after you buy this camera, it's only a ~$250 repair job and at the price you're paying for it, you'll have more than enough room to have it repaired and still be getting a great deal on it.

I feel like I'd almost be searching for flaws at that point. But I will test it and see. That article is extremely long winded and complex... There must be another, 'faster' read out there to accomplish this..
