I have a question.
I found out recently.......
Me Again Not reading the manual properly!!!!!!

When selecting Manual Focus I have forgotten to switch BOTH manual focus switch on my Nikon 24-70 2.8 lens and the D800 camera focus selector on the camera..

In the manual page 101 it says :-

"Do not use AF lenses with the lens focus mode switch set to M AND the camera focus-mode selector set to AF Failure to observe this precaution could damage the camera Or lens!!"

I have definitely done this I really hope I have not damaged the camera or lens...!!!

I don't seem to have a problem, but just read this in the manual!! and it shocked me.. and now I am worried!

Has anybody else done this? If you did, did you have any problems??

When ever I choose to go manual focus I rarely do both and never have a problem. Not sure if thats good or bad.

thank you for quick reply my focus method is different than before.......and have split up the action of the "shutter release button"
Now the "shutter release button" ONLY has "shutter release action" instead of the normal " focus/shutter release"

This way I now use the AF-ON button on the back of the camera to Auto Focus........and shutter release to take the photo..

The difference is now I can manually focus using the manual focus ring, and then simply use the shutter release button, to take the picture... This way I don't have to remember to switch the 2 manual focus buttons...
only problem is the focus is not locked....

<SNIP>

But the 24-70 is an AF-S lens, not AF. I think the reason behind this is that AF lens are mechanically coupled to the body by the "focusing screw". So when using manual focus, this screw should not move… I'm only trying to explain how I see it.
