thanks man! I appreciate the tip, I just realized how I have it wrong LOL Definitely don't want that camera to fall or I will be crying my wall to Nikon in Melville.

Is that the Nikon Battery Grip? or after market? and if after market,, which brand?

Sorry for the late reply. It's a Nikon batter grip. Only cost me $221! It was a steal. Build quality is fantastic! It makes holding the camera easier and it feels just like a D4 in the hands, which is exciting! Lol

After all these years of using black electrical tape and even shrink wrap this is the first time I've seen this, thanks.

I never rely on friction to keep the strap connected. I take a needle & some black thread, & once I have the strap to my preferred length, I hand stitch the end of the strap to the strap. No slip guaranteed. I never have to worry about the weight of the D800 with grip & the Tamron 150-600 - it is significant, probably 8 pounds or more.
