Hi, I just bought a Nikon D80 and I am starting to get a pretty good handle on using it.
Anyone out there have one, and how do you like ?

Re: Nikon D80

I have had a couple of them and they are a great camera. you can do almost everything that a bigger camera's do with just a little extra menu work. The price you can find them for now you can't go wrong.

Re: Nikon D80

I agree, I love mine it works fantastic. Coupled up with a couple good lenes and a SB 600 speedlight, I am very happy with it.
As I said I am not a professional photographer by any means, and I am on a bit of a budget.
For me the D80 is perfect. I had a D3000 before my D80. I must say I like my D80 way more.

Re: Nikon D80

I've been a D80 owner for nearly 3 years now and it is the best camera I have owned.
Coupled with the battery grip it has a lovely balance to it. :)

Heard Michael Hall (star of Dexter) uses a Nikon D80 in the show.
Does anyone know for sure which model of Nikon is used in the series?

D80 checkin' in.
My first go with a DSLR.
2 years now.
Fit the pocketbook, at the time.
Jonesin' for a D200 since I got the 80.
And since the rumor mill has a D90 'replacement' upcoming ...
Maybe a D90's in my future?
(Hah! I picked up my D80 shortly after the D90 came out. :))

Are you not happy with your D80, as you are wanting to replace it? I have found my D80 can handle anything I throw at it so far.
To a certain extent DSLRs are like computers, there is always a new model coming out that is said to be better...lol.

Oh, quite happy with it.
I had enough to spring for the D80, but had wanted a D200.
D80 works just fine.
I got the 80 not long after the D90 came out, which brought the price down on D80's.
With the replacement/upgrade of the D90 rumored to be in the pipeline, it's not difficult to figure the price on a used/new D90 will drop off, as did the D80.
I'll wait it out; maybe pick up a D90 and have my D80 as a backup.

Well, as I don’t see much of a step up in getting a D90 from the D80 (other then video capability). I think I will wait a while and look at either a D300 or 700 down the road. For now I will put my money into lenses and lighting.

The D90 is a very capable camera and the dx format means no extra costs for lenses as I already have them.

The cost of a D300s is too large a one to warrant going for it instead of the D90 for me.

Saying that if I had the money then I would go with a D3s and new lenses. :)

I see there is still not a thread dedicated to the D80, I think it is a camera that deserves to have one?? Even if its lopped in with the D40,50,60, etc. If there are any D80 owners out there that feel the same let your voice been heard…lol. Just asking J.

A thread for the D80?? The poor D70/70s has been waiting longer. What about the poor D100? No one seems to want it at all! [LOL]

Seriously, it will come as more users with those cameras arrive and join us.

One day soon, the DX format will be orphaned. Sensors are becoming cheaper to produce and better in quality, just like any other electronic device. As they do, they push will be on to go to the FX format and DX lenses will be limited to obsolete cameras. It would make sense to start buying regular lenses.

I don’t own a D70, D100, etc. Let those owners fend for themselves….lol.
I guess I would just like to get more feedback from D80 owners.
As I said I am just asking, I think this site is great and I am enjoying visiting it very much.
Really nice to be able to talk to, read, and get information from other Nikon owners.

The D80 could be lumped in with the D90 slot, as they are relatively 'close cousins'.
1st gen/2nd gen in the con/pro-sumer line up.

Yes, that would work putting it with the D90. I would just like to see the D80 somewhere?? I would like to make contact with other D80 ownersJ
