I have got next to my D5100 a D80. You know I like it a lot, even it belongs now to my daughter. I think the D80 is such a great camera. I will use it as much as I use the D5100.

Just started to read the D80 manual again.

Are there any members using the D80?

Isn't your D80 the same as my D90 just without the video capability?

Actually no it isn't. The D-90 has an upgraded sensor with live view. HDMI output, larger viewing screen, GPS, and a quicker 4.5 fps shooting.

I just gave my wife my D80 with an 18-105 and 35 1.8 lens. She is shooting Auto right now (ugggg) but I am going to make her watch Fro's beginner guide. I love the D80

Yes I've got a D80. I really love the small size. But I have found that the pictures get quite noisy at the higher ISOs.. But I have really loved it.

What do you think should I use my D80 much more. It has a built in Motor that means for me I can buy some lenses without motor and so I will safe lot of money.

And if I grab my D80 more often which lenses would be great on it?

My D5100 was a upgrade to my D70,it wasn't long before the respect i had for the D5100s technical advances where replaced with a desire to use the D70,it felt and still does so much better in my hands, unfortunately the D70 has developed reliability issues with exposure so that meant it was the D5100 all the time.
Knowing i wanted a second body i tried some different models and settled on the D7000 it had a similar feel to the D70,its now the one i pick up the most, even with its outdated technology if the D70 was working correctly i would be using it and would not have bought the D7000.
So my answer is yes use the the D80 if you enjoy it.

I recently purchased a D600, but still use my D80 a lot. All of the pictures on this site were taken with my D80. I'm contemplating sending it in for a shutter replacement and a good cleaning. After learning the D600 better, I still plan on having old faithful handy as a backup.

I have several cameras. I have a Nikon D800, a Nikon N90S (I still like to shoot film) and a Nikon D80 that I use when I go hiking or backpacking. I have a couple other cameras as well, including a Pentax WG-1 that I wanted for hiking but picture quality is lacking; and, I also have an underwater camera. For a backpacking trip, I just don't feel comfortable taking my Nikon D800 out in the wilderness when I am not sure what the weather will do, not to mention the weight of the D800. I have gotten some good pictures with the D80 regardless of its age.

I have the D800E, D600 and D80. And for my Africa trip I took a D800 which got drowned and died, but thats what insurance is for. Since owning the D800 and the D600 I have not picked up or even charged the batteries for my D80. I know it takes a good pic but can I compare it to these two? No I cannot..

I quickly agree with you when you said, ". . . can I compare it to these two? No I cannot." When I do serious shootings, I use the D800. Yet, the fear is in me as you have said, "I took a D800 which got drowned and died," Two weeks ago, I did a backpack on the Appalachian Trail, and it was nasty. If my D80 had died, Oh well. I did an event shooting last Monday (of December) and for the next two months (Dec 2013-Jan 2014) twenty-one of my pictures will be hanging on the walls at Callaway Gardens in Georgia USA, shots done with the D800. And oh, by the way, I am full of envy with your African trip. . .. and by the way, in the middle of last century, I did a vacation in Sidney. I loved it down there. We flew into Darwin.
