Photos in video mode

The D7500 does not have IBIS, however it does have VR while in live view video mode set to 1080p. Something I accidentally discovered is I can take pictures while in live view video mode thereby giving my shot stability. I notice I have the extra crop, but is there any other drawback to using this feature? Seems nice to use my Tokina 100mm which is a screw drive lens AND have the image stabilized. Why isnt it talked about more? I did a search on the interweb and either I am not asking the right question or its just not a feature worth talking about. Anyone else using the VR in video mode to shoot pictures?

The feature was definitely reported on: "In the area of video, the D7500 features 4K video recording, 4K time-lapse shooting, 3-axis built-in e-VR image stabilization during 1080p video shooting, uncompressed HDMI output..." (Via: PetaPixel). The feature would be of little to no use to me, personally, but I can see how it would be a nice thing to have regardless.

Ya, I knew that while shooting video but I didnt know I had access to e-VR while shooting photos. The camera must be set to live view video and dumbed down to 1080p for it to work, but typically I have to shoot a minimum of 1/160 with the Tokina 100mm on the D7500 to reduce the shakes. Now, the camera allows me to shoot 1/60 handheld, granted only while looking through live view and not the view finder. But basically, it has the same VR IBIS the z6 offers (3 axis) with non native lenses attached through the FTZ. Functional for my 100mm macro, 35-70 f2.8d and 80-200 f2.8d, all of which turn into manual focus lenses on the Z system due to the lack of a screw drive in the FTZ. Granted its with the added crop but I have UWA lenses for that.

I had a chance to test this out after work so I went out in the yard with the 80-200 mounted on the D7500 and got some interesting results.

Crop is different but other than that, very similar results. Holding a lens with some heft to it tends to bring out the wobblys and seeing that VR work through the live view gives some comfort. Its strange though, I set the view finder pics to 1/320 and the live view pics at 1/60 but EXIF says all are shot at 1/320 even though I could see my exposure changing while dialing back to 1/60. Not sure what thats all about but I can see myself using this to stabilize lenses held at weird angles using the flip screen like down low or above my head.
