Why did you by a D7500!?!?

So far, I am really liking the 8 frames a second. I like shooting wildlife and birds in particular, and my D7100 is slow on the frames and has a small buffer.
The D7500 is like a machine gun!!!

To go with me where I go. My first camera saw the inside of the camera bag more than the outside for fear of dust and moisture. Not with this camera. Its my daily carry no matter the weather or what I am doing.

My D7500 was an update to my D5600. After shooting the D5600 for a while, I found I wanted something faster and with a better viewfinder, particularly for wildlife images. Having two command dials and not having to delve deeply into the menu system to change settings were also factors.

so was it worth it or could you have settled with the D5600?

I ask because I thinking about the D5600 or the D7500 coming from the D3200, money is not an issue but which one will benefit me more and also thinking about the D7600 which is suppose to be out this year. I want this purchase to be my last.

First, I sold the D7500 last month to get the Z6. Wonderful “upgrade”

So I had a D7100 for just over 4 years. I got it pretty much when it was launched. Fabulous camera and when I felt it was time to upgrade, I was thinking fx . But I liked the D7500 specs, and while others said it wasn’t an upgrade, I went ahead. I found the IQ impressive and the controls much better than the D7100. I wasn’t disappointed in the D7500 in any way. I had a number of lenses, but my go to was the 18-300mm.
One card slot didn’t matter a hoot. I’m an amateur, so wasn’t constrained by the need for backups that a pro might have, but having said that, I’ve never lost an SD card.
As for controls, the D7500 gave me everything. I’m sure a lot more than the D7100. I was in M mode 100% ... a joy to use.

If I could have, I’d have kept it with the z6, but I needed to get the cash to pay for the z , shame, but having had the z6 for a month, no regrets whatsoever.

It was worth it, if for nothing else than the viewfinder in D7500 being waaay better (clearer, brighter, larger text font) than the D5600's. Also, the D5600 was my first DSLR (I'd been shooting Coolpix bridge cameras). As I got comfortable with a DSLR, I went from shooting P mode to S and A modes. The jump to full manual was hampered by the lack of two dedicated dials so that was another reason for getting a D7500.

You can see from my signature, however, that I kept the D5600. It's a fine camera. Also, since I bought it as a refurbished body and AF-P 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens, selling it wouldn't generate much $$. Today, they are permanent residents in my Miata along with two other refurb lenses - an AF-S 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR and a AF-P DX 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR.
