Hi
i have just purchased a Tamron 24-70mm G2 VC lens for my Nikon D7500.
not sure what I am doing wrong but I cannot get it to work on auto setting. When I press the button to take a photo the flash comes up but no picture is taken.

The screen shows the following information.

Auto. 1/500 F11
iso 1250

DX 8 A AUTO1
AUTO AFA-A. NORM* [5.8]k

please help.

There shouldn’t be any issues. It’s a good sharp lens that ought to work well on a Nikon.
Check the connection ring is totally clean on both the camera body and the lens.

If that doesn’t work, get the lens replaced by your retailer.

That sounds like the lens is not auto focusing. Check the AF/MF switch on the lens to make sure it is solidly in the AF position. You could try it on MF position. If I am correct that it is a focus problem, it should let you shoot in MF (manual focus). Switching to MF is not a fix, it just confirms that your lens is not auto focusing for some reason.
Make sure the lens is properly 'clicked' into place on the camera. Gently twist in either direction without pressing the lens release button. I've seen people hold the lens release button while installing the lens and they actually tighten it slightly passed the click point causing poor connection. So give the lens a twist in both directions to make sure its mounted solid.

I just started using a new Nikon D7500 body with my 18-200mm lens. The lens and body worked fine, but when I added a 1.4 teleconverter and tried to press the shutter release with the selector set on M I got an F-- signal. The lens is securely attached to the body.
Any ideas about what the problem might be?

I don't know much about teleconverters, but the f-- might be right for a converter with no smarts in it. Try removing the lens entirely and see if you get the same indication. You should be able to trip the shutter in manual release mode even without a lens. Then try the combo again in manual but switch the camera to manual focus as well. If that doesn't work, I don't know. The camera should know to not worry about focus if it doesn't see a lens. Maybe the converter does have communication with the lens but not compatible with the d7500, just guessing though.

I just tried my d7200, I get f0 with no lens in manual mode. If I switch to S mode, I get f-- with no lens. Make sure you are really in M shooting mode, the dial on top, not to be confused with M focus mode, the lever on the front. But try it with both of those set to M, focus and release mode.

Another question is the tele-converter compatible with the lens. It might help with the make and model of lens and tele to help solve the problem.

OH, and welcome to the forum.

The error means there is no communication between the lens and camera body and while you don't mention who made your TC I'm betting it's simply not compatible with the lens you've mounted. The Nikon Teleconverter Compatibility Chart shows what lenses are compatible with which TC and, as you can see, the 18-200mm is not listed.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

Assuming the lens works fine without the teleconverter, I would assume the teleconverter is incompatible or faulty. I have a D7200 and 18-200mm lens and it works fine with my Kenko 1.4X Pro 300.
