Flash sync and shutter settings

My camera is suddenly indicating a fixed flash sync of 1/250 with indication on screen of x 250. Any idea how to disable this? In M mode I am now not able to adjust shutter timings. I have tried reset to factory settings several times but no luck....... this is really a big problem for me as I am currently on a road trip in Monument Valley and cannot take good pictures now.

I don't know what happened. I would go into the menu and see if it can be changed. E1 is flash sync. Maybe somebody else will see this and know what is happening. Good luck.\

I can't test it right now, but do you need to have the flash engaged to make the change? My D500 doesn't have a built-in flash for me to check, and my other flash is in the car.

"Fixing Shutter Speed at the Flash Sync Speed Limit. To fix shutter speed at the sync speed limit in shutter-priority auto or manual exposure modes, select the next shutter speed after the slowest possible shutter speed (30 s or bulb). An X (flash sync indicator) will be displayed in the viewfinder and control panel."

Check the e1: Flash Sync Speed setting in the CUSTOM Settings menu and make sure it's set to "1/250 s–1/60 s".

It sounds like that setting was moved to "1/250 s (Auto FP)" somehow.
