Seems like a great camera so far. Questions I couldn't find answered in the manual:

What does the upraised palm icon in the viewfinder mean?

What's with the little red box in Live View?--seems to be in lower right in MASP modes, center in automatic and scene modes.

Thanks in advance,
John

Welcome to the forum. Not a user of the D7500 but someone will come by soon to help you.

If you fill out your profile and add the camera gear we can better answer any questions that you might have.
You can do that at http://nikonites.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

Under camera just put the model number like D7100; Once you put the first letter like D you will see a list of all the cameras in the database pop up. The more numbers you put in the smaller the list becomes. When you see your camera just click on it, Be sure to click on "Save Changes" in the lower right corner.

Thanks

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

I also don't use the D7500, but someone that does should be able to help you.

The hand on the left of the Live View screen is Vibration Reduction. It’s also shown at the top of the Info screen. I don’t see it’s shown in the viewfinder though.

manual page 185....search Vibration Reduction

The little red box is the focus point. Tap the ok button and it might move to the centre ...the default setting is Reset, though in the menu the role of the ok button I live. Kew can be changed.

when your lens has focus, this becomes a little green box. If you zoom in on your subject, this becomes a big box, enabling you to check the focus is correct
