Exposure Bracketing

To enable and use exposure bracketing I have done the following:

Assign the BRKT button (via Custom Control Menu F1) to Auto Bracketing
Assign the fn1 button (via Custom Control Menu F1) to Bracketing Burst
Set (via Shooting Mode Menu: Auto Bracketing) to AE
Press and hold the BRKT button and set a bracketing EV value and number of shots

If I press and hold the fn1 button and press the shutter button bracketing does work. But I have been unable to find a way to have bracketing function without physically holding down the fn1 button while pressing the shutter button.

Wouldn’t that would restrict bracketing from working when using a remote to trigger the shutter? Am I missing something? Is there another way to achieve that?

Any ideas, suggestions, advice?

You don't need to hold the Fn1 button for Bkt to work... Turn the left dial to Cl, or Ch and fire away... It'll fire as many times as you set the BKT button for... <--this'll also work with the remotes

Seems that you are going through a lot of extra steps to do this .

Just press and hold BRKT button and set how many exposures you want to take and how many stops (or partial stops) for each. Then let go of BRKT button. Turn the left dial to Cl, or Ch and then press the shutter button and hold till t quits firing. Just remember to set the BRKT button back to 0 when you are through.

Related to this. I selected fn1 to be bracketing burst. When I hold down that button and shoot away, there is no bracketing. What am I doing wrong? I thought it would bracket and then when I release the button it would go back to normal. I do understand about using the BRKT button but I find it a pain to have to go back to set it to 0 again. I guess I don't understand why one would use the fn1 for bracketing.

Okay... Here's how this works...

There's 2 parts to Bracketing...
1. Turning the top left dial to Ch or Cl <--continuous
2. Setting the Brkt settings to how much difference you want, and how many shots you want.

Both cumbersome to change...

By setting the Preview button or the Fn button to Brkt Burst... this is what you get...
1. simply holding the button while firing, means you don't have to turn the Top left control button to Cl or Ch
2. You can set your Brkt button to the settings you generally want and leave them that way...

Now, your camera shoots normal S single shots... except when you want to Brkt, then simply holding the Preview or Fn button while firing will give you the bracketing without doing the cumbersome dial changes previously outlined above.

You will have to remember that Bkt settings are set, so if you switch to Ch,Cl for active sports shooting (which you wouldn't use bracketing for anyway) you'll need to turn off the Brkt settings...

Thanks for the reply.

I was hoping for something where the camera would save the bracket settings and all i would have to do is press fn1 and the bracketing would occur. Then after releasing fn1 the settings would go back to what i had before. I didn't want to have to press BRKT and change to 0.
