Hey guys I just got the d7500 and I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to change the image quality to nef? Only jpeg options are available in the settings menu.

Press the to Menu button.

Go into the SHOOTING menu, drop down to "Image Quality", choose NEF (RAW) or NEF (RAW) + JPEG fine (if you want both RAW and JPEGs) and press the "OK" button.

Hey there, I'm in the shooting menu's image quality section but all I see are jpeg formats eg jpeg basic, norm and fine. I don't see any nef format options anywhere!

Those settings cannot be applied to .NEFs. They can only be applied to .JPEGs.

Hey there sparky, sorry if this is a bit of a noob question. I just got this camera and am confused In regards to shooting nef format. Is there a way I can shoot photos in nef for this camera? Thanks.

Yes you can shoot in RAW Do you have the camera in the AUTO mode? IF so the change it to P(rogram) mode or any other mode. Auto limits what you can do.

I misunderstood your original question. My bad.

Press the QUAL button and turn the rear command dial.

So when you enter this menu, highlight the "Image Quality" option down near the bottom and right-click into it...

You DON'T get a menu that looks like this one? And yes, I know, this is the back of a D7100, by the way...

If you are just getting started with photography, you might want to stay with jpeg for a while in order to get a feel for the camera and then go to raw.

Just scroll down/up the page and you'll see the raw option,it's easily fail to notice that there are 2 pages.

I had this problem too. To solve press the Qual button on the left side of the back of the camera. Use the CMD dial to select an image quality option with both RAW & jpeg. Once you have done this all the available options should be available in the Shooting Menu and you can select the one you want from there.

I’ve found that I need to use both Raw +JPEG as I’m playing with SnapBridge. When in the camera picture review, tapping i brings up a sub menu that allows you to select the picture for upload. RAW photos cannot be selected, only jpeg can. I got around this by selecting the retouch menu then resize and saving. This creates a jpeg copy of the raw file.
I’m uploading to Nikon Image Space....so jpeg is fine.
To photoshop I’ll still put the sd card into my computer.
