Questions - Live View Mode

A few questions:

1. When in Live View (LV) and I change the focal length (18-55mm) lens, I hear a clicking sound. What is that?
2. Again in LV at one time both the viewfinder and the screen worked in alternating fashion. If I looked through the view finder the screen would blank. If I pulled my eye away the screen would show the scene. But I can't get that to happen again. Was I dreaming?
3. The manual seems to indicate LV can only be used in Auto, Flash, or Movie modes. But it seems to work for me in P, A, S, & M modes. ?

Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Manual, page 78: "Beeps During Live View: A beep may sound if you adjust aperture ... during live view". Changing the focal length may change the aperture, so could this be the clicking sound?

Again, page 78: "Exposure Preview: In modes P, S, A and M you can use live view ..."

One more question: I don't seem to get any response in LV trying to use the monitor to focus in single shot mode (Page 15 of Manual). In movie mode I get a response.

From Manual:During live view the touch screen can be used to take pictures (touch shutter, page 16)...."

I assume the camera is in AF mode and the lens meets the conditions described at the top of page 110 of the manual? Can you move the focus point with the multi-selector?

Yes, but I found the issue. There's an icon on the monitor in LV mode that controls the touch options (Page 16). It was off on my screen. Once I turned it on things work as expected. The manual doesn't refer to this page anywhere else that the describe LV in shooting mode that I can see. But maybe I have missed something.
