I just now noticed this so there is no telling how long it has been going on because I don't use my D750 all that much, my D850 and D500 get by far the most use. When I go to the menu for Battery Info, the only battery that is displayed is the EN-EL15 in the camera body. I first thought that the 6 AA batteries were just exhausted but when when I put freshly recharged ones in, still nothing but the camera battery. When you attach the battery grip, the little green light to the right of the LCD comes on briefly, which tells me that power is getting to the body. When I tried taking the EN-EL15 out of the body and just attaching the grip, the green light came on again, but the camera was totally dead; no display on the top LCD and the screen was dark. This one has me stumped. There is not even a menu item for me to designate which battery to use first, grip or camera.

I tried doing 2 factory default resets but to no avail. This is an OEM MB-D16 and not a third party knock off so that is not the problem. Often times 3rd party grips are less than reliable.

Any suggestions on what is causing this and how to remedy it?

re: MB-D16

Are you using a Nikon brand battery? I remember reading about issues with aftermarket batteries and people having trouble getting them to work in grips. It was something about the bodies not recognizing EN-EL15 aftermarket batteries in grips (if memory serves me correctly)

If the batteries in your D850 and D500 are Nikon brand, do you have two that match? What I mean is there are EN-EL15 batteries as well as EN-EL15a, EN-EL15b, and EN-EL15c batteries. If you have two matching Nikon batteries, can you check and see if the grip works properly? Not sure if there are issues when paring an 'a' with a 'b' or 'c' battery.

These are rechargeable AA batteries, not EN-EL. I have never had problems with the grips on my D850 and D500 with AA batteries, though I have switched to D5 batteries (made by Kaster) in both of them.
