Shutter issue

Last night I went to do some shots of the milky way. Set shutter speed on 20", took the shot. Checked the image on the LCD screen, looked good in focus etc. Hit the remote release for another image here shutter speed was changed to 1/60 of a second. Scratched head thought "OK maybe I hit something." Reset ss to 15" hit release button worked fine. Hit release button again within a few seconds ss was on bulb shutter just stayed open, hit release button again to close shutter. Reset ss again this time paying extremely close attention so as not to touch anything else set to 15" again pushed release button again worked fine. Now all this said I was trying to get images to photo stack. So hit release button again within seconds 1/30 ss.
Now the camera was sent back to Nikon in July for a shutter issue but that time the shutter would stay open when set in manual mode but worked fine in auto mode, but who shoots in auto?
So my question is do I have to allow the shutter to cool between shoots? Of only 15 to 20 seconds?

Don't have a d750 but have taken long exposures back to back with d7100 with no problem. You are using a remote release what type? Can you duplicate the problem with out the release? The in camera setting are actually changing? Battery condition?

I am using the Nikon remote release and yes using a 2 second delay it repeats the shutter speed changing. Battery is the one that came with the camera, approximately 5 months old. Yes the shutter speed is actually changing on its own.
I also have a 7100 and have done exposures up to 3 minutes without any issues.

Bracketing is turned on by Pressing the bracket button by the flash and turning the Command dial from 0F to 1F, 2F, 3F in the LCD window... not in the menu.

Well I pushed the bracket button and got a BKT in the screen. Turned the camera off and now I don't have the BRK on the screen.

Press and HOLD the button in... look at the LCD... If the Frame Counter is anything other than 0 then bracketing is ON and your problem... If it is 1F, 2f, or 3F... Then while holding the bracket button IN, turn the command dial until the Frame counter changes back to 0F

screen stays blank. BKT doesn't even come on anywhere now. also just went outside, bright and sunny put on ch over a 10 second time period it only took 4 exposures.

????????

You don't need to be running around. You can test the shutter sitting your chair... Stay focused on solving one problem at a time. You camera is changing bracketing exposure between shots...and you don't know why... You need to learn how to control/use the bracketing feature... :) So far, you haven't been able to definitively bring up and determine how bracketing is set on YOUR camera.

One thing I can't figure out. If it was set to bracket shouldn't it have shut off after 7 shoots?
Thanks for your help Fred it is much appreciated.

Some confusion may be in the way Nikon implements button actions... There are two different button actions.

Nikon refers to it as "Release Button to Use Dial"... On/Off... and they implement it with a Yes/No... (Leave it to Nikon to make something simple, difficult)

On means when you push a button, the LCD stays ON... and then you turn the command dials, etc...and then press the button again to turn it OFF

Off means you have to press and Hold the button for the feature to stay On, while you turn the Command dials, etc...

On the D810 it's menu option F10
On the D750 it's menu option F6

I believe the default method is OFF

No... It just keeps cycling... If you have it set 3F + 3 frames, and you have the exposure adjustment one to right set to 1 stop... every time the shutter fires, it makes a 1 stop, 2 stop, adjustment off of the dialed setting...

It's one of those things, that at this point, Nikon refuses to fix. It's the same with Exposure Compensation... I don't know how many students I seen get flustered with their exposure only to discover that they have Exposure Compensation dialed in, and they aren't aware of it...
