Help neeeded. Usual D750 shutter issue but no support from NIKON customer service.

Hi,

during my last hiking trip, I experienced an issue with the shutter of my D750 and I ended up carrying an useless camera plus objectives during 2 days. Looking on internet when back in the Netherlands, I could identify that this was a recurrent issue on D750's that many other customers had experienced. Some of the cameras have been recalled but not all. Unfortunately, mine was not on the recall list.

When I contacted Nikon Customer Service in the country where I live (Netherlands), the answer I got was kind of shocking for me. They stated that as the camera had not an European Serial Number, they could not help me any futher. As customer of an international brand, I did not expect to have to face a different service depending on where I bought the camera. The only thing they propose to me is to pay 50 euros to get my camera back without repair, and 400 euros to have it repaired. They also offer me to just forget about my camera and let it to them for free.

Has anyone had the same problem with Nikon Customer Service? Do you have any idea to contact Nikon Global customer service?

It's the same here in Australia. If you buy a "grey import" ie not a Nikon supplied through an authorised Nikon dealer in Australia, then Nikon offer no warranty. Often sellers of grey imports will offer their own warranty, but its NOT Nikon warranty. Its the way it is. I doubt you'll get anywhere with Nikon. Sorry

Welcome, sorry your first post is a problem post, first i dont know about the Netherlands but the Nikon UK did at one time fix this problem FOC for customers, this would have been under instructions from Nikon itself because Nikon UK is an independent nikon supplier so free repairs to cameras they did not sell would need the cost covering by Nikon itself.

Can i ask were you purchased the camera from.

Thanks for your answers and explanations. The camera was bought on ebay on shipped to Germany. I now live in the Netherlands.

I understand the fact that the supplier, i.e. Nikon NL or Nikon UK do not cover the repair for a camera they haven't sold. But in the end, you purchase Nikon, and for a product more than 1400 euros worth, I was expecting to get a worldwide customer service.

I am curious to see if somebody found a solution to get support from Nikon directly.

At the height of the problem Nikon UK did repair any bought from anywhere, i think i would first try your Nikon importer with the question has the Nikon free support for this stopped or are they just saying they will not do it because it was not from them.

I have contacted them. They are called T-Dimension. It was written that it was shipped from the UK when I bought the camera, but I see now that they are actually located in Hong Kong.

Usually when purchasing grey imports, the camera has to be sent back to Nikon in its country of origin. So check to see if Nikon exists in an area that covers Hong Kong. As far as I know, there isn't a global Nikon company. Each division of Nikon tends to only service equipment that was manufactured within their own region.

If you believe the eBay seller mislead you, and you purchased less than 180days ago using PayPal, you may be able to get your money back thru a PayPal dispute.
