OnLine Seller Ratings

It seems like a Nikonite rating system would be helpful.

If you GOOGLE D750 and get the full list of sellers (body only) and then rank them by best price (for new camera) the list looks like this:

• Tie: Jet Camera and PowerSellerDigital
• Lots to Save
• Delta Closeouts
• Deals All Year
• KEH Camera
• Ritz Camera
• B&H Photo
• Best Buy

There is about $610 difference from top to bottom.

I have heard of many of these but some are unfamiliar. Can anyone say which they have dealt with and rate the experience? Just from a price standpoint your experience with the top four sellers would be most helpful. I appreciate the need to encourage nearby/hometown sellers, but looking at this strictly from a commodity viewpoint, there's money to be saved IF you can trust all the sellers. Thanks.

The lower price stores are more than likely Grey Market sellers. Many times they also strip the kits down and remove things like the straps, batteries etc and then try to sell these things to you. Good dealers with US cameras you will probably not see much if any difference in price.

If it looks to good to be true it probably is.

I agree with Don (again). Even with reputable dealers like B&H or Adorama, they can also sell gray market items at a cheaper price...but will list it as such.

From your list, I would use the last four dealers (KEH, Ritz, B&H, and Best Buy), although Ritz has been closing shops in Texas so I would probably replace them with Adorama. KEH typically sells used gear, so while good deals are possible, that’s why they will have a price advantage.

Wrong sub forum

Bottom line is this: As of right now the D750, body only, factory-fresh, in retail packaging (NIB or "New, In Box") with a legitimate Nikon Warranty (meaning the warranty is backed by Nikon USA, not the merchant) sells for $1,796.00 through authorized distributors in the United States. If someone is selling a Nikon D750 (body only) for anything less than that amount, there are reasons why. Specifics may vary and less reputable companies will not be forthcoming with those reasons. It could be grey market, a stripped-down retail box, refurbished, a floor model, some kind of combination; only the seller knows BUT... There *will be* a reason, because Nikon very tightly controls retail pricing for their gear.

Just for fun I did about 30 seconds of "digging" on PowerSeller Digital: Google Reviews rates them with 1 star (out of 5) with 38 reviews on file, Reseller Ratings give them with 1 star (out of 5) with 4 reviews on file, Site Jabber rates them with 1.3 stars (out of 5) with 38 reviews on file and there are 9 reports for this company found on RipOff Report.

If there's a brick and mortar near you, maybe think about buying there. Sure, you pay sales tax, but you can talk to real live people, see before you buy, and have the ability to physically take the camera in and talk with someone face to face if you need to.

Barring that, the only online places I deal with any more are Adorama and B&H. I have purchased one used lens from MPB, and was impressed.
