Odd shutter problem

Hello all, today I experienced a strange shutter problem on the D750. None of the settings would work except the U1 setting. All the other settings would fire the shutter but not to time. i.e. 125 second and 2000 second were the same. It seemed like the mirror was locking up as the shutter would only fire on the second press of the button. Really annoying as I needed to use manual settings. however, on getting home I did a 2 button reset of the green buttons the lcd flashed but it seemed that no settings were changed but all the settings now work again. has anybody else experienced that? The shutter has been replaced under the recall in July and all worked ok up till now. Could it be a shutter problem or its it likely to be electronic?? Any ideas??
thanks
Mike

Sounds like you may have engaged mirror lockup mode. In this mode, the mirror locks up on the first press of the shutter and the shutter actually fires on the second shutter press. The 2 button reset would then clear this mode.

I agree, do the two button reset and start fresh.

I had a very similar problem in that no matter what, when I first turned on the camera (whether it be for first click, or a lens change), I would lock focus, depress the shutter, and it would lock up with an ERR on the LCD screen. If I pushed the the shutter button again, the mirror would drop, and I could go on happily until I turned the camera off for whatever reason.

This started happening *after* I sent the camera back to Nikon for the second shutter recall. The replaced it, and thats when I started having the problem. I sort of lived with it until recently when I lost some shots of a band because of the problem. At first, because it was past the 6-month repair warranty, they were going to charge me $300 to fix it but I complained loudly enough that they fixed it for free.

I just got it back - the replaced the shutter (again), the rubber grip, cleaned and tested it. I tested it when it arrived and it's working great.

I would try above but if it continues I would contact Nikon.

When I spoke with a Nikon rep about a different shutter problem I am experiencing, he said the 2-button reset only resets the shooting menu (it doesn't do anything to the software as I believe my problem is software related). So if the 2-button reset cleared the problem, most likely something in your settings got changed before you did the reset.
