D750 Commander mode to Pocket Wizard

Sorry if should be obvious, but I'm participating in group photo sessions where the lights are set and participants use Pocket Wizards in channel 1 to trigger the lights, we all use the same lights just taking turns.

But I wonder if I do need the PW transmitter in my hot shoe, or the commander mode should work also.

Are they different radio technologies?

Thanks

They are different technologies. You will need the PW transmitter in your hot shoe. The commander mode is not that great so you will like the pocket wizard better anyway

Commander Mode in your camera is NOT a radio transmitter...

Nikon CSL uses both visible and infrared light spectrum for communications, with the exception of SU-800 commander unit that only uses infrared light. There is no radio communication used by Nikon CLS system between camera and Nikon flashes.
