What's your second camera?

As most of us here, my D750 is the main workhorse. But there are situations when I want to leave the D750 home and take a smaller camera with me, in this case the Coolpix A.
Coolpix A has APS-C sensor, no AA filter, and a good fixed lens optimized for that particular camera. I'm happy with its IQ but I don't like the AF and sometimes I wish that it had a zoom lens.
I'd been waiting for the Nikon DL and was disappointed when Nikon decided to cancel. At the moment nobody knows what Nikon will do regarding the compact or mirrorless cameras. That's why I'm thinking about the Fuji X-T20 with the decent kit lens 18-55 f/2.8-4 as the second camera, but it's not very convenient (and also expensive) to have two different systems.
I'd like to know if you have a second camera and happy with it or if you're planning to buy one? Thanks.

My answer depends on the definition of a 'second' camera is.

If I'm out shooting like I normally do, then my go-to is a D600, and the 'second' camera is a D600.

If I'm limited to 2 cameras, then it's the D600 with a D7100.

If I'm shooting 35mm film, then I'm either shooting with an FM2n and FG, or a Pentax Super Program and K1000.

If I'm shooting MF or LF, I have no second camera. Lugging around an RB67 or 4x5 makes a 'second' camera impossible.

When weight is the prime consideration (ie, hiking, backpacking etc), a second camera is not considered. In this case, I use a Sony a6300.

...
.

To clarify: I meant the camera you might want to take with you whenever you go out: shopping, strolling, dining out, social events, etc... These are NOT photo-specific trips.
And thanks for your reply... Further more: How do you like Sony a6300?

I have the D750, D7100 and Coolpix S9900 BUT in the case you are talking about I have my Iphone 7. It is always with me in my pocket and takes great photos and videos and will even go "Live" on Facebook

When I leave the house it's with the D750 and D500 sitting on the seat next to me - 1A & 1B. There are no "seconds", though if you're looking for a smaller, more portable, less obtrusive camera as an answer then it's the Sony a6000, though to be honest when that's all I have it barely gets used. The D610 is the closest thing I have to something truly "second" and that'll come out if I need multiple wide perspectives (the D500 lives with either a 300mm or 70-200mm on it).

For digital that is easy, my 1º is the D700 and my 2º is the D300. All I really use the D300 for is its crop factor, which turns my 300mm f/2.8 into a 420mm f/2.8 and my 600mm f/4 into a 900mm f/4.

For film, however, things get a little more complicated since I shoot in 2 different formats; 2 1/4 and 35mm. If I choose all of my film cameras overall, then my 1º is the Hasselblad, and my 2º is the F2. If I narrow it only to 35mm then my 1º is the F2 and my 2º is the F4E.

It's always a struggle. I have a 1/2 dozen cameras... Panasonic LX5, Nikon F4s, Yashika Electro GSN, Nikon D200, Nikon D300, and Nikon D600... and then I have to struggle thru which lens I'm gonna carry...

I have two cameras. Each one I got for a specific task. For my birds and other action stuff, it is now my D500. Everything else is the D750
They both ride in the car with me.
I don't look at either as a backup.

I might be an oddity here, but I thought I'd answer anyway. I have a lot of cameras, but I don't really rank them in tiers. And I want to point out that I am not a collector either. I use all of my cameras. I draw some kind of satisfaction when I manage to shoot great shots with ancient digital gear, like D1H or D1X. I have made several Li-Ion batteries for them myself and don't have to suffer the bad NiMH batteries either. And I still shoot some film too.

The "second" camera description does not quite fit, but I never leave the house without at least two cameras. I really only have two pocketable cameras, the Leica D-Lux Typ 109 and Casio Exilim EX-ZR-15 but I mainly use the latter firmly fixed to my riflescope to shoot 240 FPS videos. (Sorry, NSFW).

I have a D810, D750, D500, D7100, D50 and a J3. Of those I'm going to be selling off the D750 and the D7100...and what I use is really situational but if I had to order them then primary is D810 and if I need a secondary I'll us my D500.

The D50 and J3 I have for fun...if I didn't need to sell the D750 to cover some of the costs of the D810 I'd keep that as a backup FF camera....but for now I'm fine with what I have.

My main is a D610, my other camera is a D7100.

I used to have a D90 but gave that to my daughter-in-law, and my wife uses our D5100 (although I've been known to borrow it).

Not sure "second" is the right term - one is FX one DX and together I get the best of both worlds.
When I do a shoot where it is critical I get images I'll take both and if one fails then the other is back up, in those cases it would be my 'second' but that was not the primary purpose - it just seconds as a second when I need a second. :p

I am looking for a true "second" camera to always have with me that is better than a phone camera. I think that is also what you meant. My local, independently-owned camera shop told me that the Canon G7X Mark ii is what a lot of pros go for - I was debating between the Sony RX100 iv and a Canon. The Canon is less expensive and easier to use. Like you, I too was hoping for one of the Nikon DLs. I have not bought the Canon yet but I think I will eventually.

In answer to the OP, my second camera is a Canon S90. Seven years old this month and still going strong. Small, light and shoots RAW. We've taken hundreds of great family images over the years and always take it on holidays and trips out. If it packed up tomorrow I'd go straight for the GX7 MkII.
